How about a way to view which stories a member has either authored, or contributed to, in their profile?

I can see some of their stories in their profile, but only their latest submissions. I'm not quite sure that list is accurate, though. I have to click to see more, and sort that by Latest and re-search. Do you mean the forum profiles? I think it'd be neat to have a direct link to that user's Chyoa profile.

Another suggestion, though I want to avoid double-posting, since it's something of a taboo on forums across the world.

Would it be pertinent to see the number of comments a thread has in the search results? Somewhere next to its rating and views. If generating commentary is any indication of a thread's interest factor, perhaps we could have an advanced search sortie by number of comments (ascending or descending).

Can there be a way to make a story completely private? I'm a rather picky writer and would like to be able to make sure my story is up to my standards before releasing it to the public. I realize I could just do it in word or something, but depending on how many threads I decide to start with it could be a hassle transitioning it over and making sure everything is functional and the formatting is fine.

I suppose you could try posting something at top on the front page asking the mods not to apporve it yet and they could leave it pending then contact them later once you got everything.

    That's a good idea, thanks

Also, if you do use Word, don't forget to give the paragraphs an extra carriage return, and avoid indentation. Otherwise you'll be missing a carriage return between paragraphs on Chyoa, and I've noticed indentation has some weird effects with the formatting.

I can appreciate the desire to have a very "clean"-looking site, but I think the thread-adding/updating text entry boxes really need to have a border, or some other indication that they are in fact text entry boxes.

I love that idea! I'm all for it!
I wouldn't consider them spoilers as they only hint on where things are headed. It would make me pick certain threads over others.

Maybe a thread could look like this:
    Where next?
    -> Option (tags)
Where (tags) is a spot for a hover-gizmo showing the tags, if the user desires to see them. I think that a (user) flagging tags system will lead to a lot of problems.

I miss having some kind of indicator of which thread has which tags. Especially when I found out I had made a typo in one of the tags. Hover-tags or otherwise on the story map AND thread list are something I'd like too.

I miss the writers'/editors' comments box. I've been making do with the public comments, but it's an awkward match for the purpose.

Yeah, I used to use the writer comment box to make notes about what might come after. I've used general comments for that, though now MY comments show in MY notification area for new comments, which seems like something that shouldn't happen.

It's true that in Chyoo2, you lost access to comments you provided; but without writer comments, it really helps to be able to see your general comments. It's an interesting change that comments are now public rather than just to the writer; maybe it'll be better, I don't know.

I really wish we could have the ability to set trusted contributors back. I have someone porting over a story from the BEA which is 50 threads deep, and I can't set him to trusted so I have to approve every thread.

Also he is (with permission) porting over threads by his collaborator as well. It would be nice if we could reassign them to the collaborator once he has time to make an account. Right now it's about expediency, so they can get the threads over fast without having to do a complicated dance of posting order.

The pull down menus and the rest of the site seem to be separate. For example, if a story you bookmarked gets updated, if you go to the new thread from the freshness page or any way other than the bookmark menu, it will not update, and continue to show the story as having new threads even though you have seen them already. Another case is, if you have already approved a thread but not gone to it from the notification pull down, it will still continue to show that you have a new, unapproved thread until you use the link in the pull down to go to the tread.

There is also no obvious place to go to approve a thread. If you go to the unapproved thread, there is no option anywhere on the page to approve. You have to hunt around until you find the approve function on the manage page, which is not as obvious as having a button in the thread itself (But is nice to have for doing multiple fast approvals). Also, you can approve threads out of order (And they don't show up on the manage page in order) which glitches out the tree view for a bit.

Someone just posted a follow-up to a thread I had rejected. Apparently both unapproved and rejected threads are completely visible and can be added to. I now can't approve the follow-up thread (causes an error) and the story is broken from that point forward.

Unapproved threads need to not be visible to readers, and rejected threads doubly so. At the very least, adding to a rejected thread should not be possible.

@Friedman Sorry if this seems like I'm spamming. When I posted this the report wasn't showing up,so I thought there was a glitch in the system.

  15. Very much in agreement with all of this. I've seen people even commenting with their thoughts on unapproved threads which seems fairly silly when the editor might have something to add onto it before finalizing it and approving it.

What happens now if you reject a submission? Does the submission get deleted? Or does it keep it somewhere, and the submitter can edit it and resubmit it? Ideally the decline would give a reason for the decline and give you a chance to fix things.

Regarding unapproved threads, I wouldn't go so far as to say they should be invisible. I would say instead that they should not have comments and ratings allowed, or additional threads. However, this last one I prefer to hold off on until after trusted writers is implemented.

Right now it stays there, fully visible and addable to, with no indication that it has been rejected.

It's possible he decided to make them visible because we don't have story editors yet (hence a lot of unapproved threads)
And yes, I also think we need a system for editors\trusted users\whatever, but not an automatic one like it was on the old chyoo (i mean there should be someone reviewing the "promotion"...maybe a system that lists the possible candidates depending on their contribution to a story, and a mod that evaluates the promotion should one user decide to apply for it..that's the first thing i can thik of)

Rejected threads should not be visible and it should not be possible to add to them, rate them or comment on them (exceptions: the story editor and the thread author). Or at the very least there should be an indication it has been rejected.

Not-yet-approved threads are fine as they are now. The fact that you can add to them means that if you have a 'chain' of two or more threads you can add them all for the editor to see and approve instead of adding them one at a time and waiting for each one to get approved.

  20. They're not fine as they are, honestly. Being able to rate and comment on something unfinished/unedited that could very well change greatly between the moment you see it and the moment it's approved just doesn't make much sense.
