(ooc: Whoops, my bad, I assumed Sierra stormed off on her crusade. That said https://forum.chyoa.com/threads/it-all-starts-in-a-tavern-feedback-ooc.2091/ Anyhow, still waiting for a few respondings and such before I post again. The wolf girl moved around from behind the bar towards the table. Giving the dragon a wide berth as she did. "Nice to meet you, I'm uh," She blinked a few times at Sierra full name. Most of it had gone right over her head, "Luna, just Luna. Easy to remember. But yes, unless whatever we..." It seemed she was just lumping herself in with the rest of the group. "... Are going after is in the middle of the town square some supplies would be in order. It wouldn't be good if we all starved out in the forest somewhere along the way. Well, I wouldn't starve. Don't know about the rest of you." She glanced around at all of them again then to the dwarf. "I missed the finer details but I did hear something about saving a princess. Sounds like a noble enough mission." Not to mention that she is probably loaded. "So, shall we be off to the shops to get ready then? That is of course, unless you have anything else to add Mr... Uh, Dwarf."
Medrakis holds in a laugh. "No, they're not tribute... they're for us to use so to help you get into the dwarven city. I'm Medrakis… technically Baron Medrakis, of the Black Forest, but ignore that." He backs politely away from the dragon and turns to Sierra Justine Pyia Noblia Virtua Regalia, then to Luna. "Yes, not starving to death in the forest would probably be a good idea."
That's quite the name... Do all angels have such long names? Valerie wondered briefly as she looked at the angel. “It's a pleasure to meet you, everyone.” Valerie said as she looked at each of the other people in the room: From the wolf girl to the dragonborn, to the actual dragon, to the dwarf that was asking for their help, and finally back to the pretty and eager-to-leave angel. “On the topic of acquiring supplies, I am pretty good at bartering with people, so I can handle any price negotiations, if necessary. Just tell me what you would like to buy.” She paused for a moment. “We should probably decide what we need to buy before we go shopping. I mean, provisions are the obvious choice, but what else?” (OOC: Not really happy with this post, but I'm not feeling so great today and this seems to be affecting my writing. Sorry.)
"Hmph." Tassyth scoffs. How dare he not offer her tribute. However...it is true that she has to get far away and these humanoids might be worth using for something even if just to get her more coin and gems. "Very well then, as long as you're all travelling very far away from here and are gathering gems and coins. I don't mind tagging along." She heads to the table and sits before deciding that even that was too close and moves to a table that is instead near-ish. Far enough away to ensure a gap between her and the rest of the group.
"Uh, erm...." The dwarf stated, watching as the dragon got close enough to make out the scaley features. Dwarves and dragons did not go along well. There was an entire book written on it, with a halfling, and some bumbling dwarves. However, finally, he answered Luna. "Well, the quicker you do it, the better. After all, those gems aren't going to mine themselves, and the princess won't rescue herself!" He beamed, still clearly a novice at the whole hiring murder hobos thing. There was a delicate art to it. You did not want to push the murder hobo to to quick of action, but murder hobos were known to be lazy if not pushed enough. As for princesses rescuing themselves, it was rare, but it did happen. Usually under the guise of divine chosen one aspect, a magical sword of godly power, or inept captors. There were, after all, many inept captors out in the world, and rarely did they ever get a second chance to kidnap the princess. Save for the kingdom of Fungi or the kingdom of mute heroic elves, but we don't talk much on those places. With large sack of loot in hand, and party (?) assembled, they were ready to go off into the market place to heroically assemble loot for the endevor of saving the princess from the evil chancellor. Which brought a question to the party's mind. Why hire a chancellor of vizier? After all, they just always seemed to be evil, didn't they. *********************** Party Loot: 1000 Silver worth of gems Party: Luna, Valarie, Sierra, Tassyth, Medrakis Current Taboos: Scat, Mutilation Specific: Pregnancy, Rape Current Location: Varnak
Sierra beamed as the party more than doubled in size. Confident before when it was just Valarie and she, her beliefs that valorous actions inspired others were only reinforced; and she was sure she'd be at the head of an insurmountable army in no time. After all, the noble creatures of this world only needed encouragement and a good guide to virtuous living. Sierra turned to Valarie to answer the elf's question. "I deduce we shall require at least EVILSMITER. The holy weapon forged by Mikaile Honorous Knowledgeous Smithious Rightuous the third! Not to be confused with the second, he was a drunkard; made story-time interesting however. The tears of my sisters, The Valiant Angels of Noble Virtue; they can cure any wound. And the Shield of Ironguard! Great bastion of heroic heroism!" Then with a nod she added to no one in particular "I assume these things can be readily found."
Tassyth groans at the prospect of more traveling. She came here to rest, not leave immediately. "Well, you can go shopping in town if you want. As much as I want to grace more humans with my presence. I need to get some rest before traveling again. You may come get me when you leave, or don't. Either way is fine with me." With a huff, she stands and walks up the stairs to the bedrooms. She systematically peeks a head into every room much to the distraught of anyone who may be inside. Once she finds one that's to her liking. She enters in, closing the door behind her with a kick before climbing onto the bed. With her front claws, she grabs the pillow and pulls it under her head before pulling her cloak to cover her face. Although long, the cloak isn't quite enough to completely cover her head and hindquarters and the thick cloth slides up past the base of her tail while she engulfs her head in darkness and the softness of her pillow.
Valerie blinked a couple of times at Sierra's words, trying to decide if the angel was serious. Eventually she concluded that yes, her new acquaintance was completely serious. She opened her mouth to reply, but was interrupted by the dragon leaving the room and going up to rest. Probably for the best if she's not there during shopping – we don't want to scare off all the merchants and make them run away, like the inn's patrons did... Besides, if she's tired she should use this chance and rest as much as she can. Finally she returned her attention back to the angel. “My dearest Sierra,” Valerie began “I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but... it is highly unlikely that any of the items you mentioned will be available. Varnak is a small village. Any weapons, armor, or healing items sold here are likely to be cheap and of not very high quality. Any enchanted items or ancient artifacts sold here should be examined very carefully, as they are likely to be pale imitations at best, outright fakes at worst.” I wouldn't mind being wrong and finding some cheap magical items for us to buy, though. She added in her mind. “So I am sorry to say, but you will likely have to do with a more mundane weapon and shield. Still, you have the right idea. We should check and see if what is available is better than what we have. Switching our weapons and armor for better ones, or getting spares, might be a good idea. Buying healing items is definitely a good idea, as is buying rations. We should also buy a length of rope – it can be useful in various ways. And we should see what other utility items are available for sale here.” She paused again. “That's all that comes to my mind at the moment. Does anyone else have any suggestions?” She took a quick look at Medrakis and Luna before returning her attention to the angel.
"Yeah... I don't think I've heard of any of those things...." Her ears flicked a bit as she gave the angel a confused look before turning to Valerie. "All those sound like good ideas. I would suggest we also get a tent or at least some bedrolls for those that don't have them. I'm not sure if any of you are accustom to sleeping in the dirt under the stars." Her eyes went to the angel again. "I've got my bow but I could probably use a new blade as well. An orc ran off with my old one wedged in his shoulder. I suppose though, " she motioned to the door, " We'll just have to see what's available." Then started making her way over to it.
Medrakis, of course, understood perfectly well why you hire a chancellor. It's almost impossible to manage an entire realm by oneself... well, maybe if one stopped having sex on an hourly basis, but then what's the point? "I think I've got everything I need. I could use a better gun, but that would probably empty the bag." He nods to Valerie. "And they probably don't have any here." He thinks for a moment, before walking over to the stairs that lead up to the bedrooms. "Someone should probably keep watch on the dragon, to prevent anything nasty from happening."
While the two dragons hunker down to do... whatever it is dragons do on their time off. We don't question this, as it would generally involve asking a dragon what it does for vacation. As most dragons are more inclined to breath whatever volatile mixture they happened to have eaten in their lifetimes, most consider it a wise decision not to ask. Medrakis could see most of those in the inn had fled, and those that left seemed to be the edgy lot all trying to inhabit the same dark corner, or random bards who decided that a blowjob or fucking was well worth their lives. Upstairs he could make out the tell tale signs of fucking, although who knew what was up there. Needless to say it was all quite boring. As for the others, they probably, but not necissarily left the confines of the sex smelling in and walked out into... a small-ish town. This was by no means a tiny village on the map, where NPCs would spout the same generic nonsense because it was to unimportant to be anything other than a rest stop for a greater plot. But in that vein, it was by no means the capital city where one would unerringly be burdened with the 300 or so side quests that seemingly would pop up just by entering. The sound of the mid day bustle of merchants filled the area, although thankfully wasn't crowded enough to get washed away in the crowd. They could see a string of shops in the area, as well as a few merchant wagons selling antiquities and the like. They were left with a choice in this matter. On one hand, an actual shop would likely produce low end, but probably consistent merchandise. To that end, there seemed to be several shops of note. The Banded Gecko Mercantile, Hammer and Iron Blacksmithing, Hot Iron Gunsmithing, and Odds and Ends alchemy. There seemed to be two wagons, who seemed to not be particularly fond of eachother. The owners of each passing glares at one or another that screamed that they would eventually be lovers in the third act, or that they downright despised eachother. Seeing as the pair aren't the protagonists of the story, however, one can assume it was the latter. Both had wagons, the human male reading 'Pharen's Jack of All', and the female elf reading 'Far and Wide'.
Sierra pondered what her compatriots had stated as she left the tavern/inn. When she had left her sisters and brothers to descend to the mortal realm, she had not been able to take her valued equipment with her. Some of the tales her older siblings had told her (the ones who'd gone down to the world and returned) said that they'd found or forged many items and left them in the world. Sierra had naturally assumed that she'd be able to easily find them and use them in her quest but alas that didn't seem to be the case. Indeed she'd had something of a difficult time finding equipment, as many of these mortals who carried at least some desired items refused to part with them without 'coins or loins' as they said. Since Sierra had no coin and was unsure what they meant by 'loins' she was forced to scavenge for equipment! Eventually however she came upon an upturned cart with the remains of, what she assumed was, its owner not far away in a ditch. She found both a blade and a shield nearby but little else, she took the weapons and swore righteous vengeance upon the brigands. Now she considered the steel she carried and knew she could do better. "I shall need a sword and shield!" she declared. "While these are of... adequate design for the moment. I should like sturdier material." Then after she paused to regard her robes she thrust her finger towards the sky "AND MAIL!!!"
Valerie sighed, then moved in front of her new companion – luckily they were on the side of the road and didn't need to move – and took the angel's pointing hand between her own two hands. Once she was sure she had the angel's attention she began speaking. “A bit of advice before we begin shopping, my angel. Do not announce what you need out in the open, especially not so loud. You are just making it easier for dishonest merchants to take advantage of you.” She explained, then added “Of course, if we're lucky all the merchants here will turn out to be honest people. But why take the chance?” She paused and looked first at Sierra, then at Luna. “I'd like to make a suggestion before we actually begin our little shopping spree. How about we just check out the shops and see what they have for sale, without buying anything just yet? Once we know what is available and at what price we can decide what to buy. We don't need to buy everything right away, as we will likely get a chance to buy more later. At least I hope so...” She added the last part in a quieter voice. Still holding the angel's hand the sorceress looked towards the shops before speaking again. “Well, it seems the elf's wagon is closest to us, so perhaps we should start there. Then the other shops, and finally the second wagon. What do you ladies think?” She asked her companions, waiting for their opinions before doing anything more. (OOC: We should probably decide what our characters look like. I think Luna is the only one that has had any significant description beyond the basics of her race.)
"Fine by me," Luna said with a smile. "I don't need that much anyway. I normally end up just spending all my money on ale." Living in the forests mostly Luna got what she needed from the land. Though she wasn't a miner or a smith. So steel tools and weapons were one thing she couldn't get out there. That and alcohol. Well, she probably could set up a still for herself but getting drunk in a tavern with company was far more fun. "So, elf it is then." As they made their way over she clapped the angel on the shoulder and grinned. "You be as loud as you want about your desires. It's good to let everyone know just what you want." Then trying to to hold back a laugh she leaned towards Valerie. "I can't wait to hear how loud she is when she's getting plowed."
Sierra immediately regarded Valerie as her hand was clasped between the elf's and proceeded to listen to her words. "I see no folly in your plan." Sierra agreed when the other woman was finished. "But if I do not state what I require then how are people to know what I need?" After a pause she added sheepishly, "Although I suppose I could lower my voice a bit." Then Luna clapped her on the shoulder "You be as loud as you want about your desires. It's good to let everyone know just what you want." Sierra smiled happily at that and then cried "Onward! To the merchants!"
(Indeed, feel free to find pics, or do a detailed description of the slu- I mean, adventurers) Plowed or not, as they approached the elf, she had set up her shop. The raven haired beauty had long, black hair, and was dressed in a simple white top, down turned knee high boots, and black breeches that clung to her athletic form. Across the seat of her wagon appeared to be a long jacket. The entire outfit seemed less to entice, and more inclined to likely be travel garb. She was busy clapping her hands together, standing upon the front part of the wagon. "Far and Wide, get your exotic and strange artifacts! From the far east and west, Far and Wide has what you need!" She was getting some attention, although most just looked over the items and moved along. It seemed the average farmer had no need of a dead lich's phylactory, a spear of destiny, or any other overly expensive nicknacks. As the trio approached, it seemed the elf eyed them, before hopping down. "Ah yes, you all look like my type of clients!" Or suckers as the case may be. Of course she would never openly say that, but adventurers did tend to be the biggest suckers on the planet. She did stop and balk at Sierra. Angels weren't exactly common place. It seemed she hadn't seen the dragon earlier, either! "So, what can I help you with today?" Behind her, the gear was on display. Some food, what appeared to be some sort of iron pot, an ornate spear, a strange staff with a... gun barrel at the base, some well made boots, and what appeared to be an opal amulet. Across the way, the other merchant was selling his own items, and seemed to be doing better. Although those with sharp enough hearing could make out why. Low end, and mostly items that a farmer could afford. The other one seemed to work on commission, and likely was the polar opposite of this merchant, who relied on one big sale. Still, his voice did cause the elf's eyes to twitch in brief irritation.
"I can't wait to hear how loud she is when she's getting plowed." Luna's comment caused Valerie to smirk. Me too – especially if I am the one doing the plowing. She kept the thought to herself, though. “There is a time and a place for everything. Right now there's no reason to be loud, so lowering your voice is a good idea. No need to annoy people by shouting at them, or near them.” The elf told her angelic companion as the trio made their way to the elf's wagon. “Good day, miss.” Valerie greeted the elven woman. “My friends and I are just checking out what's for sale before deciding what to buy, and you seem to have quite the collection. What can you offer us? And is there anything we can do for you?” She asked as she examined the woman's wares. It occurred to her that she was still holding Sierra's hand, but no one was objecting so she decided it was fine and there was no need to do anything about it.
Completely oblivious to Valerie and Luna's amusement at the prospect of the angel being plowed like a cheap whore, the elf gave a slight bow. "Arasne Lorawarin, at your service. Seller of magical items from... well, far and wide. Far better than the snake oil salesman over there." The last part was with noteworthy disdain. Motioning to her wares, the party could make them out. While some were a bit gaudy, the only one that stood out as being strange was the gun staff. Likely some mage had an odd sense of humor. Next to each item was a listed price. Spear of Slaying- 500 Silver Shotgun Staff-400 Silver Magic Boots- 350 Silver Magic Amulet-350 Silver Ham of Plenty-320 Silver Magic Pot-950 Silver The pot was likely the big surprise, especially seeing as it was the most mundane looking out out of the lot. "I'm sure you'd at 'least' get use out of the amulet or boots. And they're very fashionable, as well! I'm sure both would look lovely on any one of you." She gave a genuine smile. (So, if you care to appraise the items actual worth, you need to use Wisdom or the Appraise Power. If you care to learn more in depth on the magical enchantment, Intelligence. And if you want to talk down the price, Charisma. Have at it!)
“Some interesting things you've got there, miss Lorawarin. Let me take a closer look...” Valerie started taking and examining each and every item, trying to first figure out what – if any – enchantments each item had, and then, with that knowledge in mind, how much each item was actually worth. Afterwards she would decide if it was worth wasting any time to try and lower the woman's prices, or if they should just move on. Intelligence roll (check enchantments): 12 Wisdom roll (appraise the actual value): 11 (OOC: I wasn't sure if I should make one check per post, or if I can make multiple, like this. I hope I did it right.)
