I've voiced my thoughts to a few already, that I was debating trying to be a gm again. I don't know if it's the time to try setting anything up right now with all the other stuff going on, but may as well just think out loud here. After seeing Majus and Tjf do it so well, I think I have an actual idea how to do it competently now. I've been trying to work on a non lewd story lately involving psychic powers, so I guess I just have that on the brain, though that doesn't necessarily have to be what happens, though it definitely makes things more interesting in my opinion rather than doing a modern story around just mostly basic characters. Borrowing from the character creation system they used since it's easy to understand and works really well, so what needs to be noted of how this is different? How it would work if we went that route, is that everyone has a free one star to defense against base powers(Essentially meaning even basic psychic characters can't get one shorted by having their brains snapped in half or told to kill themselves unless greatly outclassed in terms of power...regular people may not be so lucky.) From there, you also get a resistance to powers you share with enemies or other players, like Telekinesis or Mental abilities. So if someone has ** for say...psychokinesis, someone who has a single star for psychokinesis, still has a base defense of one and even though their offensive abilities are weaker, they can defend successfully for the better parts from attacks of that form, but when they fail to manage to defend themselves, there will be serious trouble, meaning making good use of abilities is important rather than just using the most powerful attack at your disposal. My more mundane option is a modern/possibly future modern rpg game about spies(Likely from fictional countries that are most certainly NOT expies of real ones, no matter how suspiciously identical they seem.), and namely, just doing the kind of exaggerated over the top action movie spy things, because not many players want to play staring at computer monitors for hours when almost everyone does that these days. But I get the sense it would mesh well with the other thing for a modern/future/possibly old timey war setting if done. Point being, I have way too much time on my hands lately, so if anyone is interested in something, let me know. Admittedly, I think I’m better at playing than dictating, but I think I have an idea how to do it now.
Since the vote went in favour of the psychic option, what would it entail, story wise? The character creation page gives a lot of information, but what would the story be? Are our characters just living their lives and doing what they want, or is there a larger story?
Yeah...hmm...my other issue is that I tend to have trouble with things. The way I thought things would work is likely they are just either minding their own business, using their powers for good or bad. I didn't totally have an exact plan. Perhaps some kind of born in a laboratory scenario maybe? Seems like the most reasonable situation to how so many people in a close location have the same kind of powers. Whether or not they stay loyal to the facility or go rogue though....that might be something. Of course, if people want to make characters not attached to any group, that's fine. If I had to go by non-lewd story, the key group is the S16. A research facility that raises children from birth or pulls youth off the street if they have potential. They have the resources of an army, but don't seem actually aligned with any particular group. They always treat their patients well, but whether this is to avoid getting torn in half or out of genuine concern, isn't clear. They don't seem to want to take over their world, but the assignments they send their people out on tend to range from corporate sabotage to just bizarre things like breaking into buildings...to move tables around. While the do raise capable psychics, the sheltered lab life usually leaves them with little clue how to interact with anyone, except with members of their own team, which some suspect might be intentional. The lack of knowledge of the real world can prove harmful though despite the powers of their soldiers. That doesn't mean there isn't people without powers outside of the facility. Some just try to keep off anyone's radar and hide their abilities or use them to make bank by manipulating other companies. Some want to appoint themselves as real heroes or villains, but just because they are more vocal about the use of their abilities, doesn't mean they're a lot stronger. There's even a few people who got their abilities later in life through things like the power of meditation. So maybe there's something to do that? I don't really want to kill anyone's ideas of being inventive with things involving background details and their characters though. If you have any thoughts of what would be interesting, I want to hear them. I agree the psychic idea seems nice, but I feel it needs an actual direction to it.
I'm not sold on the born in a lab scenario. To me, it takes away a lot of freedom to create characters. Maybe the characters could be normal people who have received their abilities recently, maybe a few months before the game starts, and now a shadowy organisation has moved into the city to find them. That's just my opinion, though.
Yeah, I like that better. It's basically what I had in mind to begin with. So probably should just go with that so a hard background isn't needed for anyone and they can just create how they want.
Ah. So, I thought of how to open with it. The characters start waking up in a hospital with no clue how they got there(Not amenisa. They remember everything up to the point they wound up there, just fine...but then... they were just there.) Either they just discover their abilities for the first time for some of them, or they are already aware of their power. Anyway that could be something to actually build off and introduce everyone to each other fairly early on, but they can still branch off and do what they like after they leave...but people with the same kind of powers are trying to pull them into something without explaining anything about it. That might be something. I see that it's pretty closely divided between a story about international spies, which I maintain would still be good, but I probably won't host two different things at once, though that definitely can be thought about being done in the future by me or someone else. Honestly, I think I'd rather play that one than host.
I voted for espionage, but reading the character requirements for the psychic rpg I have a good idea of how to do this. Would you allow a character skill set to be someone who touches others to gain their powers? Draining the others of energy temporarily while still keeping their power.
Ah, hmm....I mean essentially you already have the same power that everyone has, just use it differently. Following that, I can't be totally sure of what extent or not would be good. Weakening other people's abilities might be something you could probably get away with, but a total negation would probably be too much.
Sure. Seems like the people on discord who were interested, got stuck with those nasty last minute real life things, so it will be on chyoa. Between all the other games, I’m uncertain whose going to play, though it’s just nice to see the forum getting active again. I’d say roughly around three people is what’s needed to start, though there can be more. It’s more or less just the same six or seven who play these games, so numbers should be manageable even if more join.
I think I have a character that I could create, I'm just not sure about which powers to give them, and whether skills and powers are two different categories, or if they're mixed.
Hmm. Never saw bible black. I have saw my share of anime so I know superpowers and highschools go hand in hand. Not too interesting of a setting to me. Because of age rules, either every character flirts with the “actually 18” thing.... Although if all the characters were like faculty teachers doing the secret superpower thing while just trying to lead people into thinking they were just these boring growns ups who didn’t do anything...might be something there.
Well obviously sex-fantasy-high-school goes to 20 I know it's not the most thrilling setting, just popped in my head when I saw Tjf's teacher character.
Bible Black wasn't for me. Too much rape, and too much futa. It has an interesting concept and premise, but it's just too unpleasant and weird. I definitely wasn't trying to force it into a school setting. That'd probably be too restrictive for everyone else.
This might he getting detracted, but the highschool setting has it’s appeal. Artificial Academy 2 is easily still one of the best h games I played because of all the customization to do just about literally anything in the setting. But it doesn’t always work. Pretty much the bulk of all bad H games follow the same formula of just “Highschool boy gaining mysterious powers” and as weird as it sounds, when something gets too oversaturated even for sex stories, it starts to lose any appeal when everybody else is doing the same thing. And I never saw Bible Black, but yeah. There’s a lot of h things I played where it seems like it should be cool...but then they spend all this time putting way too much emphasis on this one specific fetish or type of scene that it can almost ruin things because of the lack of variety. (Forget the name of this ninja one. But as cool as it was, not every second or third scene needs to involve armpit licking. Even if that was something you liked, that’s probably going to get annoying if it constantly pops up.)
