Does anyone "read" their own stories?

Not to be too graphic but do you ever read your own stories to get off? I find it motivating when I am stuck on a chapter to read my older stories and get turned on by them. What about you?

    Occasionally

The longer it's been since I've written it, the better.

I re-read my latest chapters several times when I'm done, but that's mainly to find the 20th missed typo and also think about where the story is going now.

I will say that on occasion I'll open up something from months ago. Usually if someone likes an old chapter I'll think, hey it's been a while, so I'll click on it. And yeah, things I thought were sexy enough to write about back then are still sexy to me now, but then I usually start reading again for the story.

And yeah, for sure there are times when I sort of forgot a scene that makes me go "damn that was actually pretty hot". When I first started I wrote dozens of chapters and tens of thousands of words my first two weeks and going back to that story is trippy. Those are the fantasies I had in my head for years and years without an outlet for them so the action is, to me, very hot. Now when I write I think I enjoy the characters and actual storytelling more (glances at current story that got to 29K words before anyone even kissed).

I read over both, each for different reasons. The Lord's Companion to ensure quality, and Darkest Challenges to playtest the variables and writing consistency. I also have a bunch of unpublished tidbits saved on my hard drive, and I'll sometimes revisit old ones for inspiration.

I sure do, mostly because I'm writing some kinks that I don't see written as often, or at least not written with scenarios and follow-up chapters that always satisfied me before.

However, it's also a challenge, like trying to self-tickle, when using my own writing. I tend to like the surprise of reading the work of others, where things take an unexpected turn from what I might predict, whereas I tend to be pretty predictable to myself...

I honestly don't. I'll read my chapters over and over again and edit and re-edit them, but I don't know. Getting off on your own stuff is sort of like trying to tickle yourself, at least in my experience.

I do occasionally. I mean, most of the things I write are my own fantasies so is it all that weird that I can get off to them?

Eh, I'll "actively read" my chapters now and then...
Since I have terrible discipline when it comes to writing, I'll pften go through my older stuff if I'm trying to write a continuation, just to make sure I don't repeat phrases too often, and since I write what I like (and there aren't that many stories that have the exact combination of kinks I'm most into) it'll usually get me going...

I aim to someday write a good body of material worth "rereading" ;)

In the mean time I'm mostly double-checking continuity, fixing grammatical errors and generally "tightening" everything.

I my read my work. At first just to proof. But when a bit a time passes I will try to 'tickle' myself. However, no matter how good I think the story is,, naturally, it's not going to have the surprise I sometimes need. My story Growing Pains is about my first love who has become my muse, and I sometimes revisit the sexier bits to wack off. However, nothing beats the thrill of when another writer contributes to one of my stories.

I can't. It's why it's hard for me to continue stuff I left for long or edit stuff. I always cringe at my own writing, lol.

I try to at times, but since the words were penned by my own hands, I mostly end up being critical of my own work rather than getting off.

  14. I am new but I like to build choice and potential random outcome. so I built a small game in the story I am writing. With the customizing feature, i can change some of the names clothing choice and even word usage so it feels fresh. Once i get a few more branches I am sure I will also be enjoying the story as much as i hope others are.

I do sometimes, often when I'm already turned on and looking for something to fantasize about. My stories are often based around what I like anyway, so there are always scenes I've written that I find really hot. Otherwise I read over them just for fun every now and then and do some minor editing if I feel like it. I never really cringe about my more recent works, but if I look back a few years to what I was writing just for my own personal enjoyment I find it kind of embarrassing. My style has evolved a lot and improved, I hope.

I can't... in fact, no offense, but I can't really seem to get off on anyone's! If anything I occassionally use them like they were foreplay and then finish myself off with a video instead.

That said, there is plenty to enjoy in adult fanfiction, even if you can't get off to it. The reading and writing is very addictive to me.
