Every now and then I see a chapter title pop up that makes me feel like I've got to click it, just because it's so wacky, unusual, sexy sounding, or just serves as a good hook that makes me wanna click it, even if I don't know the rest of the story context yet. Would anyone like to share one, from your story or someone else's? Feel free to include the question too, if it's better in context. Despite posting this, I don't have an example right at the moment... I'll post one once I can think back to one!
Not my Favorite, but definitely my most effective chapter title has been "Jump to a Sex Scene! (Major Spoilers!)" to judge at least by how fast it's shot up in my view count. Nobody likes it... but everybody is reading it apparently. However, I admit I have a tendency to click on titles with my fetish in them. I'm pretty obvious about what that is, but for further elucidation, see my published works. Essentially the ones that suggest that there's going to be some consequences to the sex that will be acknowledged later on... those always make me kinda interested. Plus any time puts in a Mel Brooks Reference. Fast way to get a like from me. Just in case anybody wants a fast like...
Some of the titles are weirder than others, although I've been making an effort to keep them descriptive and different (nothing more tedious than trying to sort through a bunch of 'Yes' and 'No' options in a tree with 2,600+ chapters), but my favorite might be: Epilogue: Bat Breeder III: Spoiler Alert.
Ha ha, Brev... I guess that's no surprise, regarding the jump to sex chapter. I like that title, Zeebop! Very evocative. "I Never Pull Out" is a big flex, Deathcon! Also, presented with no context, some of my favorites I've made for stories: "Look out, a headless horseman is approaching!" She keeps the box on her head The Ultimate Cook's Half-Baked Buffet Line! Rosa stabs me with a fountain pen!? And one from my brother: The ass is a problem.
A few of mine: Sausage for Entree (Getting Wood in the Woods) Well of course she does. The entire premise of the story is that she moves in and becomes my roommate... Dressing up as a pterodactyl and going "Ca-Chak" as she goes down on you Gee, I dunno. What do two consenting adults do in bed other than sleep? Well, they at least make it through the doorway
I always thought Gfoxx2 has marvelous chapter titles in his Affection Multiplier thread. My favorite include: Speaking of crimes, it's time for some animal cruelty. Because you're about to destroy that pussy. But my favorite of all time has to be: Love is in the air, and on her mother's face
I often struggle with chapter titles, to the point where I sometimes have trouble writing the chapter if I can't think of the title. Or, if I'm done the chapter with a placeholder title I sit there for a long time trying to think of something descriptive and appropriate. I'm not writing poetry with my titles either, I just like them to be somewhat interesting, not spoilery (except in certain situations) and accurate but hopefully with a tiny bit of extra meaning that only becomes apparent when you're done reading the chapter. Or I just have a chapter where the MC is eating out his girlfriend in her living room after work and his gf's youngers sisters accidentally walk in on them and I name the *next* chapter Cunnilingus Interruptus. So for me my favourite title was "The title field is required X", which I used on a meta-chapter describing a jumble of computer blather hinting at some glitchy program called The Affection Multiplier. I had the chapter done and really liked it, and included some diagrams and confused text as a weird "interlude" during the normal story. I figured one or two readers who also write on CHYOA might recognize the phrase, as it popped up when I tried to submit the chapter without a title for the nth time. Felt extra appropriate, even if I assume very few people would have known where it came from.
