Greetings! So, with a chapter I am currently writing for God's Apprentice, it's come up that an underage character was, while out of view, masturbating. I have no intention to actually state this outright or depict it in any way but . . . the fact that she was and that it will be implied . . . okay, so essentially, the main character has come across an empty storage tent that the underage female character was in. she was there for "privacy and alone time" and that's the extent of why I was intending on say but the fact that she'll be blushing and, in general, implying that she was there for . . . well you know . . . is that against the rules? should I just not even imply this? it matters little to the story, I just want to know how much I can imply or outright state. Sorry for the bother.
If it's not important, then purely from the perspective of your writing, I'd say it's not worth it, but you do you, I guess. I'm not the final judge on the rules, but they seem to make it pretty clear that vaguely referencing something simple like that is fine. You can't describe the masturbation, obviously, you can't indicate that the character is currently aroused, and most importantly, you can't involve it in your writing in such a way that you could reasonably expect the reader to find it erotic. TL;DR: Don't write it as porn, and you're good.
thanks for that, it's annoying when your characters do things you generally aren't allowed to show 'on screen' so to speak . . . but thanks for the clarification.
just another question about the underage rule i was thing about writing a story based of the high school of the dead manga which is an ecchi series but some of the characters are 16 and 17 is it okay if i add an authors note saying that they are high school seniors and so 18 in my story or can i not publish this story idea at all.
the rules are clear on this matter at least, you aren't allowed to show nudity in underage characters or have your characters act in a way that could arouse the reader . . . however, if you just make the characters 18 . . . that works. it's your story mate, go nuts with the alterations . . . i should point out that there's naruto fanfics on this site and those kids aren't 18 until after the show ends so yeah. just make the characters 18 which is last year of highschool anyway so it won't be a problem. it's what every fanfiction author does when they want to get away with using anime characters that are always underage.
The characters must be described as adults. (stated age, looks, behavior, implied age.) To achieve a stated age of adult characters, you can use a different timeline than the canon material uses. Please add the FanFiction note to your story according to the CHYOA Rules. Excerpt: If you want to use anime/manga images in your chapters, please also note this part of the rules:
I don’t see any harm in it. The rules are not that no underage characters may be in the story at all, only that they can’t do anything sexual. And if you’re sufficiently vague about what this character was doing, then you have plausible deniability.
Hey all, I have another question now . . . *sigh* what exactly would constitute a "sexual act" or rather, in a scene i'm currently writing, the MC is taking a 17yr/old horse riding. during this act, she breaks her hymen (thus technically popping her cherry). I hadn't planned to make a big deal of it, basically just a casual mention of the MC seeing a thing stream of blood trailing down her leg but the implication that she just popped her cherry while horse riding . . . is that considered too spicy for Chyoa?
Breaking a hymen isn't necessarily considered erotic context. It really depends on how it is written. If it is described in a reporting manner and isn't meant to arouse the reader, it is no problem.
