Inserting a chapter higher up?

I feel a bit dumb asking this, but I couldn't find it in the FAQs. It might be just the way I'm phrasing it.

I'd like to a an FAQ branch to my story, but rather than have it appear at the bottom of the branch list from the introduction, I'd like to have it appear at the top. Is there a way to insert a new chapter that way, or re-order the existing ones?

Right now, there is unfortunately no way to reorder chapters that I know of, other than deleting and re-entering stuff (not an option in a lot of cases). I believe there is a highly voted suggestion to that effect at the below link... hopefully it comes to pass some day.

Ah, thanks MidbossMan. That saves me time searching at least. I suppose I could just include a direct link to the new FAQ page in my introduction chapter. Bit or a roundabout solution, but it should work.

In case anyone's reading this thread and wondering how to solve this issue, a common technique is creating 'dummy' chapters that you leave blank and drafted, and you create them before or in between chapters. This way, if you ever find yourself needing to insert a chapter between two others, you can use the 'dummy' chapter and it will appear where you need it to when it's published. Useful for when you expect to add chapters in certain locations later on, but aren't entirely sure if they'll be totally necessary or don't know how many you'll need.

Never thought of that... thanks for the tip! I'll consider doing that for my hubs in game stories going forward.

Indeed, good thought to keep around for future stories.

When a story gets published, all existing chapters get published.
So if you have some of these dummy chapters, you can delete them and restore them (you can find them on the Recently Deleted list). Restored chapters will be in draft mode again.

Well that gives me a great way to switch a chapter to draft mode and also tells me why I could open some chapters even after deleting them. Before reading this I didn't know there was a way to restore chapter after deleting them. Maybe the message you get while deleting the chapter should mention that.

Well, this only works for seven days.
After that, the chapter is irrevocably gone.

Yes I know now when I read

I realized CHYOA has a recycle bin and immediately checked it. I am amazed at my stupidity as to why I didn't notice it before.

I was able to open the unpublished chapter you made on my story even after deleting them. At first I ignored it as no one else could access it but yesterday just as a test I created a bunch of chapter and deleted them but I was still able to open them with their links that I copied so I searched it on forum and found this thread and realized none of those chapters were really deleted and it would take 6days to permanently get deleted.

Just a suggestion, you should add a way to permanently delete them. And the message that you get while deleting them should mention that they can be recovered from recently deleted list. Just in case there is someone else who didn't expect CHYOA to have a system like that.

Well, the permanent way is to wait 7 days.
Some people are indecisive. If they have a night to overthink it, they might ask to restore the chapter.
If the chapter is deleted straight away, it would be gone anyway.

Unfortunately, there are many pages of the CHYOA Guide that would need some attention and work. :/

I know that but if someone is sure she/he should have the option to permanently delete it without wait. You could add a option below the 'recover' option in the 'recently deleted' list.
I was not talking about CHYOA Guide. When you delete a chapter, a dialog box pops up that asks whether you are sure about deleting that chapter. That message can mention that you can recover it from 'recently deleted' list.

Being sure that it must be deleted permanently right away is the main reason not to do it right away.

This would be the thing, impulsive persons would do and they are the same who might regret it shortly after. (Being drunk might also make you do such things.)

If the author clicks on any link of that chapter (a comment on that chapter in 'all comments' will have a link), he/she might think chapter is not deleted. I am not saying delete it right away but 'delete it permanently' should be a option you could select from 'recently deleted' list.

Impulsive or drunk might do it one time but I don't think anyone would go to recently deleted list just to delete it if they are not sure.

    What about this?

Making it more clear that the chapter is still there for some time might be the better solution.
I think we will go through all suggestions when working on the new version.

You just have to observe account deletions... there are users who request it every second day but then delete their request... (or create the same account again)
