I had a kind of idea for an rpg setting using the dragon quest universe. Mostly it would be episodic of just things happening. The players would form a party that adventures to fight the classic rpg bad guys and things. While I don't really enjoy math heavy based games, players will likely start at LV 1 and gain exp as time goes on. They'll carry different classes. The setting is mostly medieval and magical based, but things like working electricity and robots do exist in some places, but it's not typically common. How this would work, I'm not sure yet and I'd be open to someone else running it instead of myself, but throwing the idea out there.
That sounds like it could be amusing, but I'm currently playing DQ VII on my 3DS, so I have Dragon Quest on the mind. Something that has that both absurdist and yet at times morose tone could be interesting to try and balance.
I still need to think of how it would function. Plot isn't really an issue for the kind of game style exactly. It's mostly just events that happen, though not in a bad way. On the plus, people don't really need a deep understanding of the series to get into it because most games are just all their own thing unless their direct sequels. It could presumably work, but the magic system might be a little tough. Magic is one of the few elements that does remain pretty consistent through games. The easiest way to describe how spells work is that most of the names are derived to explain their group. Elements are basically: Woosh-Wind Frizz-Fire Crack-Ice Zap-Lightning Boom-Explosion Zam-Pure Magic Magic variations tend to go like: Crackle: Ice attack that hits groups Sizzle: Fire attack that hits groups Zapple: Mass lightning attack Boom-Explosion magic already targets everything Zam-Single target spells anyway The higher tier spells mostly are just adding the Ka syllable to them. Kawoosh, Kafrizz, Kerack, Kaboom, Kazapple, ect. There's also support spells and abilities. https://dragonquest.fandom.com/wiki/Magic_&_Abilities https://dragonquest.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_classes_in_Dragon_Quest_VII For classes, there's a decent variety. As players gain levels, they'll be able to upgrade into different things even if the basic list isn't a lot. It is possible for players to use monster classes, though not an easy for things to humans to just get access too, though a monster character naturally just knows the abilities. They just need to train by levels. For humans, they usually need the help of skill books or need to do something special, but they can learn how to do things they normally wouldn't have access to by the standard skillset. https://dragonquest.fandom.com/wiki/Dragon_(Vocation) https://dragonquest.fandom.com/wiki/Liquid_Metal_Slime_(Vocation) The difference being monsters don't need special gimmicks to learn things they would just know by default, though they can change classes to learn new skills and things too, like slime knights. https://dragon-quest.org/wiki/Goowain Mind you, training up a whole new class takes time, and means you aren't using any of the abilities you're already good with while doing it, so generally people who want to specialize in something reach their goal much faster than somebody trying to get a strong offensive and defensive core going. The pay off for doing it, isn't necessarily worse however. Just a lot more effort to make someone whose just as good of a mage as a fistfighter as opposed to just making a mage a more powerful mage. I probably won't commit to dice rolls or anything, though, so it would likely be played as seems right.
As is common JRPGs they're of the porcine variety. Fairly large too, from what I've seen of them, a small giant.
Damn. I was going for more of a heavily muscled orc amazon who gives death by snu snu, than a pig lady. Back to the drawing board.
Think Ogre could work, or its non-monster counterpart. Don't abandon your dreams of inflicting snu-snu. Thinking Slime-something. Would we be goobliged to make species related puns?
Well, the gigantes race exists but thing is, they may be a little too big to be able to do any normal stuff. And also sexually. Also if you wanted to do a different variety orc person, that'd be fine, I think. There's also the troll race. . Also a ogre variant race. Well it's up to you how much you want to do that or not. Interestingly, one of the few consistent elements is that slimes freaking love puns. Slimes are a pretty diverse species, so it's hard to say will be allowed or what isn't. Something on the level of king slime might be fine. Metal Kaiser King Slime is a no. Bubble slime is probably fine. And even the lower variants of metal slime might be. Platinum King Jewel? Gem Slime? Darkonium Slime? None of those. And as dope as he is, probably no Shogum either(To start) Slime Knights and the variants are probably fine though.
First time I've seen him. Pretty awesome guy and design. The eyes though, they bore into your soul. As the weakest race, they'd have to find humor in life. And part of me wants goo. The other parts of me are holding it down, but it's very slippery. I'll see myself out. Leaning toward Slime Knight, they usually have skill set similar to a paladin with some light healing and buffing abilities which is always a draw. Character-wise, rough outline is a proud warrior with a pure heart determined to teach coexistence between man and monsters and show the strengths of the even the weakest in the world, and, through that, her own. But, still at the drawing board with no details of the setting have some stuff left to fill in. Spoiler: The (lewd) Face of a Proud Knight and her Steed
Hmm(Broken normally, but image loads when I reply?). Looks a little bit loli to me. So she's like just recently 18? She kind of reminds me of the Snooty Slime Knight variant a little. Slime knights aren't all too consistent across games. They seem to have pretty different variations, though yours sounds like it would work just fine. "Bound by unbreakable bonds, these stout sirs and their slimy steeds are truly loyal, healing without hesitation. Having pledged to protect the puny, they goo to great lengths to keep their mates and their mounts safe from harm." "Angry at seeing their slime-friends bullied by swaggering adventurers, these courageous little monsters swore an oath to defend them." "Proud peacekeepers of the slime realm and paragons of chivalry, they protect the powerless and punish oppressors." "The blood bonds between these steadfast swordsmen and their slimy steeds is so strong that if one is slain, the other instantly drops dead too." "Sadly, I strike fear into the hearts of few. Damn slime keeps seeping through the cracks in my armor. Atop my noble steed, I shall smite all who oppose me!" "The knight riding on this slime is part of it's body." Yeah, so even the games aren't sure if the knight is actually separate or not. I think it's fine for your thing. And yeah. They're basically paladins, but with slimes.
For what I've seen, and you've quoted, their descriptions vary and think I've seen some variants where they're described as mentally linked too, which adds to the confusion. I'll have to think about how exactly that works for the both, the one?, of them. Probably "The knight riding on this slime is part of it's body." as the concept and take from there. If there's an hidden village of ninja slimes, what's not so say there's a knightly order of slimes too. Once I know more about the start, I can make firmer decisions. And I'll find be finding some new image to represent the knight once I get down to posting the character. Having a overtly lewd image for that always rubbed me the wrong way anyway.
Alright. I posted a bit of the setting. I had more but cut it down for now. It’s worth noting that someone did obtain the Secret Of Evolution before. Psaro used it and very nearly killed all the humans entirely. However, it’s established Psaro is a pseudo version of Estark. Estark is much, much scarier. So humans would be pretty worried about an even more dangerous demon. Demons don’t really want to be targets. Though maybe a monster might think they can obtain the secret to evolution for themselves....but yeah. Hope that works for an idea of things.
Certainly a motivation for the character to go out and adventure to discover the secret of evolution in order to grow stronger and be better able to protect and help the weak. The character may believe that Slimes are especially suited to evolution, that the process is somehow easier for them, but may have lost that knowledge at some point in pre-history. Slimes are pretty varied with a number of subspecies with wildly different traits and physical features. Of course possibly, likely, no truth to the myths and stories they were told but something to spur the character on nonetheless.
Well, I updated the thing into more proper factions if that helps. Humans would serve the human king and kingdom that I haven't thought of the name of. Or it's possible that they were conscripts in Mortamor's army until the idea that any monster could obtain Perfect Evolution got out. Or even if they're Estark cultists, they probably still want the power. But if you're going with a good character than they probably are working for the human side.
Neither of the monster factions would appeal to her. More interested in cohabitation than supremacy, which rules out the Mortamor faction. Cowering in fear because you're liable to get eaten otherwise is also not high on the list which puts her in conflict with those pledging themselves to Estark's crusade. And looked up Secret of Evolution and while something the character will pursue, they will also at some point abandon as a goal and shift to keeping it hidden or eliminate the knowledge as she becomes more aware of its deleterious effects on the user's psyche. This is in turn will likely alter her interactions with the pair of factions. The goal she shares with Mortamor will come into starker contrast, putting them at opposite ends. And she'll realize that Estark can't be reasoned with and that the agitator's promises are empty since they'll be eaten too if he returns. Leaves Humans as the natural allies.
Well the other missing general for Moratmor is a defector along with his battalion to the human side. But I don’t have a lot of details worked for that one yet. The human factions will vary too, but not sure how yet.
