Dialogue

In my story "Head Leaper" I have encountered a bit of problem. Dialogue is coming very several sources. Now when 2 different media are involved it's a bit of a bind but I was fairly explicit about it. When a third media entered the story I switched that to italics in Word to make everything clear but on the site, unlike the forum, the pasted material doesn't seem to retain the settings or allow font settings to be altered. The effect is that people might be quickly confused. Is there anyway around this (I could use Upper Case I guess, but a pain in the neck) or am I just going to have to be wastefully explicit.

 

The site uses Markdown, so surround text with asterisks *text* or underlines _text_ to get italics.

By now, the first point "Line Break" is working without extra blank spaces, but remains till proven by another user

I favor using ** {bold} for dialogue, and * {italics} with "" for dialogue. I believe that it makes it easiest to read for me; and hopefully others.

Images can be embeded to display in posts {that are hosted elsewhere such as imgur.com} as well.

If I wrote a "letter" in a story that a character reads, I would probably put it in Italics & use markdown text to indent the text. I forget what the command is for indenting text using markdown though.

 

I wonder if I should go back and make the internal dialogue bold. I did consider it but it was only when people were messaging that I decided I had to put italics in.

 

The three posts I submitted use italics for internal dialogue with TD. Then they use bold for verbal dialogue with other characters. Of course it can be changed if that is what you want. That is just a habit I have been developing for posts I write.

With bold {**} and italic {*} commands;

• Insure the command is opened such as ** before the text you want.
  • Then use the same command to close with a space after the text you want.
• The website seems to close open commands after carriage returns {"ENTER" key}.

Unless Friedman changes how the website processes commands.

 

Ah I didn't know that, just putting * before and after * but I'll see if I used CR. So long as it's clear which type of dialogue is which I don't think we need to be consistent - although I had considered bold for internal dialogue, which would make it even more inconsistent. It's my fault for not thinking about it in the first place.
