Say what? You're already planning further enhancements to the conditionals system? :)

I’ve seized the weekend to test CHYOA 2 on the new server environment (the new server is by the way in Las Vegas, for those who are interested in this). Once I’ve fixed the last issues, we should be all set. But I warn you before: It may take up to mid-week. The database update alone takes about 3-4 hours. During this time, you won’t be able to interact with the content on the current site (read only).

I’m very excited to finally show you the new version. And please excuse my hesitant release. With over 12 million page views a month, I prefer to play it safe (and yes, we actually have more than 12 million views!).

Yes, indeed! Better safe than sorry, as they say. And every update is well worth waiting for. : )

Good news is next time I log in the new version will be live: BAD news is, it's not live NOW, which I was really looking forward to!

I have a question Friedman, will the new site be located at the same URL or will it be a new one?

There will be no URL change. This is an in-place update.

Apologies for the continued delays. Some server issues are being worked out. Friedman wants to make sure that the site is completely functional on release.

    DAMMIT!

Every week I come hoping that this week it will be live, this week I will see what the update has brought and every week disappointment! At this point I am starting to think that this supposed 'new site' is just Friedman playing with Photoshop and having us all on for an incredibly extended practical joke! (Which by the way is NOT FUNNY!)

Just like you I've been waiting though, but some things can't be rushed, and especially not if it's all for a good cause. :)

Oh I didn't know you were paying for THEIR work. Because you are, right? Right?

In the event that you aren't, and you are just a guest here (as I am), you need to learn to wait and especially to shut up when something like what you wrote above reaches your brain.

    Peace

You both make good points, and I apologize for the harsh words above.

Your anger, while inappropriate, just shows how excited you are about the new site :p

It's better to release a product when its ready then have to release by a certain date. For example when a new game comes out, sometimes there are large issues because the developers were not given additional time by the publishers. A Publisher could want a game out say on Friday. The Developer says it will be ready by Sunday because they found some glitch. The Publisher doesn't care and releases it, then people get upset about the bugs. Then you sometimes have to pay for a patch to fix the issue.

Point is this: Wait for the site it will be ready when its ready. This allows you additional time to work on your stories.

But it doesn't! There are a lot of things where I am already looking at the new features and saying "And I can use that here, and this there, and this other thing..." on my stories. I basically am stuck on several of them UNTIL the new site goes live!

Just try playing starwars knights of the old republic II the Sith lords, Lucasarts wanted a Christmas release so obsidian Corp had to compress nearly a gigabyte of the game and tuck it away in a dark corner of the games data

Meaning no offense, but I am not holding my breath this time...

Still, would be nice if I came over next weekend to find an updated site to work with... :)

(And instead of a late birthday present it could be an early Christmas present...) ;)

I see the upgrade is in process now, Monday evening (US).

    CHYOA 2 Upgrade

We're upgrading CHYOA. Writing is currently disabled but you can still enjoy your favorite stories. We'll be back soon.

Has the site been upgraded? I don't see any difference.
