RAGS has a bad habit of needing exact versions. I remember trying to play a game created with 2.4.14 with the last of the 2.4 builds (2.4.16) and it wouldn't play until I downgraded to 2.4.14. I tend to prefer using ADRIFT or TADS for AIF games. A large selection of games can be found at the AIF Newsletter. Sharks Lagoon and Fenoxo are both fairly active communities with forums devoted to completed and WIP games. The only one I can think of that wasn't mentioned is Nutaku. They have browser based hentai games.
That's why I tend to lean towards Twine, or even Quest for the projects I undertake. While I love a lot of RAGS games, I'm less likely to come back to mediocre games for exactly the reason you mention: You have to have the right version of RAGS to play the game in question, and that will often require that you have more than one version installed to accommodate all of the games you might want to play.
For me the games that I've enjoyed most are The Legend of Queen Opala (Both one and two). The creator Swegabe is working on a third right now, but there's no scheduled release date. They're JRPGs, that focus heavily on story. But they are both AMAZINGLY outstanding games.
I was thinking of making a new post, but I figured i'd try to keep as many erotic games in the same place as possible. I just found one the other day. Degrees of Lewdity. It's actually a lot of fun. It's about a girl/boy in an orphanage trying to essentially pay their way out of it by fulfilling the owner's increasingly extreme demands. You pretty much live the life of an orphan schoolperson while trying to keep your grades up and not have something horrible happen to you. There isn't a massive amount of content, but it's pretty fleshed out for a game that seems so ambituous and has only been out for a year or so. I do have some quibbles, but still. Pro's: Interactive scenes with various ways to handle them and opponents who react accordingly. Animated sprites. I don't know why, but i've come to massively enjoy lewd sprite animations over the last half year so this is right down my aisle. Fairly fleshed out areas. I haven't found anyplace that feels like there's nothing there yet. Even if it might still be limited, there's at least something to do in each area. Appeals to a variety of fetishes. There's some weird ones like Tentacles and Vore, but most of those can be turned off based on your preferences and morals. Con's: There's a very clear focus on loli/shota content. Despite the blurb that says that everyone involved is 18 or older(It also says that "Everything is consensual role play, and any animals are actually people in costumes." So...)... the character creation is clearly focused on a younger student. The default options for a female body size is Small, Flat-chested, and Innocent and the largest breast size you can pick is less than modest. The game is high on rape and non-con content. You literally get ambushed the first time you step out of the orphanage(granted it's the tutorial fight). The game is clearly heavy on the non-consensual...or at least submissive themes. You can fight off your attackers, but at first you don't really have the ability to and your resistance only makes their penises harder. When it's a close fight, the scenes can become a bit redundant of you squirming away from the person trying to harrass you while they try to hold you in place. I'm not going to say that it's the greatest game ever. It has its problems and it needs more variable content that isn't based around nonconsensual stuff, but it does show promise.

I would reccomrnd checking out F95 Zone and the Legend of Krystal forums if you want to browse for interesting Erotic Games. I am surprised that “Summertime Saga” hasn’t been mentioned. I would recommend that. Also check out “Book of Lust” There are a few games available for purchase or play on Steam (most are also available off steam) would also recommend trying out: Snow Daze: Music of Winter (fully voice-acted) A Town Uncovered Love and Sex: Second Base Cloud Meadow There are others but I think that’s a good starting point.
I found that both of these games suffered a bit from "Alphaitis". Granted, it has been a hot minute since I played either of them. when i tried out Summertime Saga, it felt like it was missing huge swaths of content (And they only had about three girls to bang). Book of Lust had a similar problem, but instead of missing huge swaths of content, it was largely full of placeholders and dead-ends. Both games felt like a grind fest with little to really satisfy the grind that you've done. Again though, I think I looked at Book of Lust about six months ago and Summertime Saga near the start of the year, so things could be dramatically different.
Two of my favourite erotic games have new updates coming out soon. Love of my Life by Naughty Road is a brilliant and touching incest-ish adventure with a great plot and characters. The Headmaster by Altos and Herndom is a school corruption sim with fantastic art and characters.
This is fair, they are in-progress games (especially Book of Lust). Regarding Summrtime Saga There are a lot more than just three girls now, but it does take a while for the game to update so I only check it out every few updates. There are probably about 8 or so paths right now that I'd consider "proper storylines", and with subpaths, alternate paths, and bonus-paths about 90+ scenes with 30+ different characters. Did you have Eve available as a path in the last version you played? The most current version now has a path involving the Rump Family...not really a big fan of the celebrity-related stuff myself, but that sort of thing seems to be popular. EDIT: If you want something completely completed however, Snow Daze: The Music of Winter is definitively completed (although they have plans for a sequel)
That is one I have played recently. They have come a long way since and a good number of girls you can bang but the story telling can be hit or miss in some places.
Carnal Instinct has recently landed on my Watch List. I...uh....totally legally obtained the most recent version of the game and I think it has potential. I don't think that the current version is worth the $30 as it's in a super alpha state and functions more of a Proof of concept than an actual game, but I do have some feedback from my 6 hours playing it. Pros: *Ancient Egypt-Themed Biatch *Smooth animations(It does chug on my PC, but that's my PC's fault) *Large amount of customization *Lots of places to explore despite being an early build *The occasional X-ray is always nice Cons: *The Game is Extremely Furry. Like I get having some furry options and there are humanoid body parts, but pretty much everyone is at least partially if not entirely furry. *Customization has to be found. Everything cosmetically relevant has to be discovered in chests, or loot, or bought from a merchant. This is logic'd in-game as fragments of the Gods Powers which is why many people have cat faces(because Egyptian Deities are huge furries), but it's still kind of annoying. *Despite a fair amount of customization, everyone has the same body type. Everyone is Busty Woman or Busty Herm with the same porportions. I assume this is a symptom of it being super early alpha, but it still has to be mentioned...Although I guess having an Intersex-Majority of population is probably easiest from a programming perspective as most characters can have sex in the same ways. *The animation details need some work. Creampies are just not as satisfying as I think they should be. *The combat is super easy and the AI is bad. The wolves literally run in circles and don't attack unless they hit you. Again, probably an alpha problem, but worth mentioning. *There's only about 6 hours of content. There are a few ruins to explore, some monsters to fight, NPC's to fuck, but it really is just a Proof-of-Concept alpha right now. Ultimately a fun mechanical experiment, but i'll be curious to see how future updates impact the game. I'm a bit disappointed by how furry it is. Like, I get it but why does it seem like so many 3d porn games with potential go furry and weirdly enough, I wish that it wasn't so horny. That sounds weird for a porn game. However, I'd like to see a more realistic take on sex where sex is something that happens occasionally that the game doesn't shy away from...Not every character that you can interact within the game is so thirsty and horny that they'd jump a random stranger on the street.
I'm more surprised that Being a DIK hasn't been mentioned. Or Acting Lessons. Dr PinkCake's stuff is super popular. If you like fleshed out, developed characters in your erotica, Our Red String is great and has a lot of routes and paths. If you prefer something more extreme, Good Girl Gone Bad, by the same developer, Evakiss, is a lot of fun as well. No More Secrets by Royal Candy is fun too. MC is quite sexually experienced, unlike a lot of MCs in erotic games, but you can also form some deep attachments, so it's not just a pure fuck fest. Writing is decent and there's an incest path if you're into that. It's also complete, unlike a lot of games out there. Love of Magic by Droid Productions is good, but I find it quite linear and the card battle combat mechanics are terribly unbalanced. But it has some very nice character models, animation and if you get invested by the Arthurian fantasy storyline you'll probably be hooked. A lot of people detest RPGM games, but there are some very good ones out there. Fleeting Iris by Heaven Studios has great art and you probably can't get a better NTR/corruption storyline this side of Japan. Also complete, also additional material is still being developed. In the same vein, although a lot earlier in development, Star Knightess Aura is an isekai fantasy story with a genre savvy MC who's up against a Demon Lord that's trying to corrupt her by planting one of his companions in her head to slowly change her. As I said, it's early in development so there isn't much pay off yet, but the groundwork that is there is very promising. If you're into Egyptian themes, you should try EraStorm - by GleenX Studio. It's set in the modern day but they visit Egyptian temples and there's some mystic stuff going on that's clearly tied to Ancient Egyptian gods and rituals. Characters are very beautiful too.
