Thoughts on the Cuckold fetish?

What is Cuckold? I know what it is but I'm asking for your interpretation, it seems the popular view for this fetish is humiliation of a partner, typically male, along with a touch of femdom and sometimes an added impregnation to the mix for completion. I mean, cuckold can also be sweet and touching and romantic too, but I haven't found a story that explores that aspect.

What are your thoughts/views with this fetish?

I don't read this genre much but I remember two different flavors from past reading.

One is female driven where she gets off on humiliating him and so wants her partner to watch while she berates him for his inadequacies. This seems the most boring and most popular imo.

The second is male driven where he gets off on seeing her with other men for some reason. This one seems a lot more rare but is more interesting to me.

I'm sorry that I left same sex variations out, I've never read any to be honest.

Neither are at the top of my fantasy list but I'm quicker to read the second than the first though.

I have some interest in cuckold stories, but not widely read or immersed in it. Here are some things I have noticed:

The male-as-victim flavor of cuckold is focused on the feelings of jealousy, powerlessness and inadequacy of the husband/boyfriend. I think the enjoyment of this kink is due to adrenaline response to the fear and dread of losing a woman to competition, somewhat analogous to the fear and dread in a rape fantasy, where there is a heightened moment of time slowing down as the transgression is about to be committed, of balancing on a knife’s edge that promises looming, irrevocable consequences.

I think of the heavy humiliation angle as a distinct kink that happens to synergize with cuckolding easily so they often go together, often due to some feeling of emasculation.

The male-as-instigator flavor of cuckold is basically a hotwife kink, encouraging her to flirt with other guys and have hook-ups. His pleasure might come from several things, everything from finding her more desirable when she is hit on by other men, to enjoying seeing his partner having wild sex like a pornstar, to enjoying controlling her sex life by telling her who to sleep with.

As @Greyrock said, there's no one psychology to this kink. Most of the interest in it can boil down to two elements however:

    - The relationship
    - The scenario

The relationship is generally the interesting part. Cuckolding and cuckqueening play with the taboo of monogamy; someone in the relationship (or maybe just the reader) is usually getting off on the idea of cheating, because there's a taboo violation there. That can play into lots of other taboos like unusual power-relationships (guy as powerless to stop his wife from cheating, wife is powerless to not sleep with men her husband orders her to, etc.), and there's often a social factor where it isn't always the sex that's the problem but if someone finds out about the sex. It can play on factors of inadequacy in and out of the bedroom, emotional or physical needs not being met, and it can disrupt "stable" relationships by introducing a third party that upsets the equilibrium - and the person or persons that are involved in the extramarital relationship can be a significant factor too. We normally think of couples as being heterosexual and pursuing someone of the opposite sex, but that doesn't have to be true - a woman can cuckold a man by taking a female lover, a husband can cuck his wife by being seduced by another dude, etc.

The scenario is usually where added kinks come in - taboo pile-on. Basic scenarios are something on the order of "Our sex life is boring, so we decided to try an open marriage" or "We want to have a baby but I shoot blanks" - or sometimes with the addition of another fetish "My husband is a voyeur and can only really get off by hiding in the closet and watching as I have sex" or "I wanted another baby, my husband shoots blanks, but my 19-year-old son is living with us so we decided he'd be a good sperm donor" etc. etc.

The scenario often provides both an initial inspiration for the cuckolding to happen, and a framework within which it plays out. If the purpose is babymaking, for example, then the question is is it successful, and the question after that is but does that spell the end of the relationship? Because once you set up the imbalance of someone else fucking your wife/husband, that can create trust issues inside the relationship...and here are a lot of different ways that can go. Maybe the cuckolding continues on, maybe a menage a trois develops, maybe that really was the end and the couple realize that they love each other and don't want to fuck anyone else, or maybe the relationship completely breaks down and they get divorced. The key point is less how it ends than how everyone feels while it's going on. It's a different story if someone likes their wife to be a slut than if they're devastated by the news.

In addition to the analyses above: I often find in cucking stories that, when it's not a mutual enjoyment type story or a secret affair story, there's a kind of unspoken agreement between all the characters to ignore the cucking. Specifically, I often see some kind of terrible excuse to justify the cucking, or at least to justify the victim letting it happen. A common one is babymaking (even though I'm already pregnant, we'll keep having sex, just to be sure), or something about the woman's needs (since you can't satisfy me in bed, I have no choice but to sleep with another man). I suppose, in modern lingo, the word for this would be normalisation.

I've also noticed that stories about cucking that specifically focus on the man's humiliation and submission are often written by men and from a male perspective. I've found the same with non-con fantasies of similar focus (albeit usually with women instead). These stories aren't about the power fantasy so much as the experience of being hurt in a sexual manner, essentially. I think a lot of people exploit the freedom of the written word to play out fantasies that they know they wouldn't enjoy in real life, but want to entertain out of sexual curiosity. If you keep your fetish to the world of fiction, you're free from its psychological consequences.

I imagine Freud would be fascinated by CHYOA.

How is this different to non-con stories in which the victim enjoys it without any reason or incest stories in which a sister agrees to fuck her brother after he shows her his VERY BIG dick?

Each fetish has stories with good explanations and stories with bad explanations.

Erotic stories are really interesting this way. I like reading about history but if a book is badly written, I'll abandon it pretty quick.

Porn stories are different. If it's a kink I enjoy reading about I'll forgive a lot of awkwardness in the story setup. The less I'm interested in the fetish (or characters) though, the more it needs to be well put together.

To clarify - by 'terrible' I mean that it's obviously not the real reason for the cucking. Unlike the deceptive style of cucking, in this case, no effort is actually put into pretending that the cucking is anything but. If an affair is a web of lies, then this is nothing more than a single, fragile strand, held up by the unwillingness of the characters to create conflict.

In other words, I mean excuses that are intentionally bad. It's different in that it's a realistic thing that actually happens. The victim is, in a sense, lying to themself.

There's also the possibility that the "Victim" walks into it with eyes wide open and is only pretending not to see it.
I can EASILY think of multiple gender swapped variants on this.
Actually really makes sense from a psychological point of view based off unspoken power dynamics. The sub who willingly "Chooses" to be on the bottom because of the benefits it brings them.
The trophy wife who says nothing about her husband fucking around...
The Queen who says nothing about the king's affairs as long as it doesn't affect her.

So... my thoughts on it is that the "Willing" cuck usually is getting something out of it more than just sexual. The old joke about the guy who was so lazy he married a pregnant woman comes to mind.
With most American society very female oriented as far as power goes... (And don't say it isn't, who gets thrown out if the cops get called?) the Willing cuck in such a situation is still "Being taken care of" in that he's not being thrown out of the woman's life and replaced, which is the major fear of many married men these days. (She'll divorce me! And I'll Lose the House! And the Kids... and... wait... she just wants to sleep with another guy? Well... I guess that's ok... She's taking care of me and she won't make me raise the kid...)

So, there's probably a whole mess of other psychological reasons why it's hot for some folks, this is just ONE possible way that it could come about.

Agree with what's been said by a couple of people in this thread about the male-as-victim vs. male-as-instigator distinction.

I fantasizing about a specific flavour of cuckold story where the woman/wife doesn't mean to humilliate her partner, but is simply overpowered by how powerful and dominant the other man is and can't resist cheating, and then goes back and apologizes for it. She wants to think of herself as a good girl and dates a sexually naive guy to fulfil that ideal, but when the dominant guy comes along her raw desire becomes aparent.

So maybe this is more cheating spouse rather than cuckold, although there is an overlap obviously.

I generally prefer to read from the perspective of the guy doing the cucking than the cuck, there’s also something to the cuckqueen aspect that attracts me. I guess the whole fetish boils down to our animal brains and the need for domination over sexual partners, even other peoples? o_O
It’s a strange one to be sure that has many many different flavours and can be taken to all forms of extreme but it’s a very very divisive one as well, no matter what format

This kind of relationship is called Stag/Vixen and is a growing lifestyle lately. I notice that there aren't really stories on here pertaining to a strictly Stag/Vixen relationship, so I am working on one myself.

We learn something new every day, thanks for your gift.

Now if only I could forget about it...

I think this is technically called relying to the reader's suspension of disbelief.

Every story needs it, usually in the premise, often in many key plot points.

It's not that bad actually, most of the times at least.

I do not have a problem with cuckold stories if those stories are sincere with the kink and tell the intentions from the start because we are in a porn site and kink-shaming is just wrong.

If the author expresses clearly their intentions about what themes will be in the story, then if I like the theme, I will read, and if I dislike the theme, I won't, but without any complaints about the author. You write about what you like, and I read what I like. If we are not on the same boat, we part away cordially, and no one is harmed.

But if an author has a story that is supposed to be nothing related to cuckold, cheating, netorare, and suddenly at every choice, all options lead to that out of nowhere well, in that case, I doubt I will read anything again from that author. This is my major corcern about cuckold, when a non-cuckold story suddenly turns into a cuckold story, something that I have seem also on erotic videogames

Ok, well, I can understand that but, what does it have to do with this?

Why you feel that this happens specifically with cuckold stories?

Doesn't this holds true for other kinks as well?
