These are both bad thing, but think favourite is worse, because reader must read story to one point, where he want to continue. Favourite give us only info about they like story, not anything which part is good or bad.
I do you one better, i have a reader who frequently comments, even told me he likes the story...but never actually likes a bloody chapter. He is probably just oblivious tough, so it's kinda funny
I ended up removing Bookmarks and Favourites from my notifications and only get when Likes come through. I had a group of readers who would bookmark my latest chapter each time I published a new chapter and never ever give me a single like. This is for a story that's 270 chapters deep too!. Drove me absolutely wild each time until I got rid of it from notifications.
Sometimes I favorite a new story without liking it and check back later to see if it was worked on. If it's still barebones I unfavorite it.
Yeah, that makes sense in a way, what’s the point in chucking likes down if it’s not going anywhere sorta situation. But then it is a double edged sword for some authors, the lack of likes might dissuade them from continuing the story due to lack of engagement
I am getting a lot of likes, but only one or two people Bookmark regularly. I would like more comments though, but I guess they will come naturally as I post more.
Honestly, I find bookmarks kind of useless. I only ever use them to mark the first chapter of a story if I think it might be interesting but I don't have time to read a single word right now. If I want to know what chapters I haven't read, I can just see it because they will be green in the story map. So, when I started writing and I discovered the "bookmark only" crew I was almost offended by them. Both of them are really rude though, but I guess that it must be really hard to move your mouse all the way to the other side of the screen and click a button when using only one hand, and we shouldn't laugh at people with disabilities. "Comment only" people though, they are always super horny. They come in two subspecies: you have your classic "I neeeeed mooooore" type and the "Youuu... You should t-take that bitch... a-and... f-fuck her... like... like a bitch!" I think they are adorable.
Bwahahaha! While i certainly know the crowd, the few comments i have gotten where actually very well tought out. I'm always looking forward to my no likes, but comment guy.
Lol, wish I had that. So far the few comments have bee this is nice, or pointing our continuity errors. Still nice of people to comment. I like when people comment like this. It shows they like the story a lot.
I see we all agree the comments are the best one. But I have to add here, that we writers should responds for that comments too, It happen to me many times that I write comment with what I like and what I dislike in the story and autor just ignored me. It is not too hard just write simple answer like "Thank you for your opinion."? After few autors like that, motive to write next comments is lower, since autor didn't show any reaction.
I've only just recently began my first story here, and have received a fair amount of bookmarks, favorites, and likes. I'm not really sure which is better or worse. Honestly, I tend to look at both the same way I look at facebook likes, people bookmarking or liking just because. It doesn't tell me if they actually like my story, doesn't tell me what branching paths they want to see more of, it doesn't tell me anything. As yet, I have yet to get a single comment. I even put up a thread here hoping for some input... To be fair though, I've noticed the forums are practically dead anyways, so wasn't hoping for much there anyways.
I'm becoming that favorite without a like person. I'm finding so many good stories I don't have time to read and I fav them so I don't lose track of them. I plan to read them later when I find more time.
