that feel when someone keeps bookmarking your latest chapter

    Without giving you likes.

    It hurts man.

I'm okay with it! It's nice just to know that they keep coming back. It's pretty tangible proof that somebody likes what you're writing, after all!

Though, a like or a comment would be even better. :)

thats definitely the way too look at it. I get roughly the same amount of views on each new chapter, so some folks are clearly reading my stuff, even if they are bloody stingy with their feedback

I don't even have any right to complain as i used to be the same for years, before finally deciding to start writing.

Wanking regularly to a story and not even giving it a like is the virtual equivalent of a selfcentered lover who cums in two minutes, doesn't give a fuck about their partner's satisfaction and then goes to sleep.

I see it a bit too. I just add them and favorites to my mental folder as reminders some folks do care at least a little. I have gotten pretty liberal with likes myself since I started writing. I know how much a crave them and suspect others do too :)

Hahaha! I was actually contemplating writing the guy and complaining about it. "You just take whatever you want without giving anything back! What about MY needs!"

I think he doesn't know that we get a notification for bookmarks, so maybe he is just too embarrassed to show his preferences. That's kinda cute.

I value bookmarks more than likes.

Bookmark means that someone wants to see a continuation. Like can mean many different things.

I suppose it depends on what you prefer. A like means they enjoy what you've already written. A bookmark means they think they'll enjoy what you're going to write next.

I get a lot of bookmarks on The Lord's Companion after I upload a new chapter. If it weren't for bookmarks, I wouldn't know for sure that there were more than two or three users actively keeping up with the story.

I have one even better: when someone that doesn't bookmark or like any of your chapters, who doesn't even follow you or any of your stories, writes you a private message to say "Dude, when are you going to post more of this shit?". You answer then politely that you have a live outside making smut and of course they don't respond back.

I've noticed of late I'm getting a handful of favorites for a story when I post but few likes. It's really interesting how people consume material here. I'm not complaining though if it's favorited folks must want to read.

im having this exact same experience but only recently. less likes qnd more bookmarks and favorites. I've had people bookmark multiple chapters even but still no like. it's a very weird predicament and i cant help but wonder why.

There is nothing weird in this.

Bookmarks and favorites have a purpose - they enable notifications. Likes do nothing.

That is very true from the reader's point of view. It doesn't do a lot to motivate your average author imo. I know I'm more likely to move to a new project if I feel an older story is played out and folks aren't interested in it. I may move back to it later but it kinda feels like you're being nudged to try something different.

That's one reason I'm very liberal in handing out likes for stories I enjoy :)

I rather have both bookmark and like, cause if you want me to continue more on the topic then show me, cause some chapters take time to write and I bounce around from other chapters, I have ideas for days but this stuff takes time.

See, I mistakenly thought the bookmark meant "gee, this is neat, I might add to this" while the like was more "this makes me place my dominant hand not on the keyboard", but history has proven me to be incorrect.

If I'm being honest, that's how I use them. I will almost always pair a like with a bookmark, but I bookmark chapters that particularly stick out to me as a reminder to come back to them later, mostly because I have a thought on continuation or a jump-in point I've identified.

I just like seeing some sign of life lmao. Sometimes though I think there’s a new chapter posted because there’s like 30 notifications, but they’re literally ALL just likes. I’m like well then... okay... guess there isn’t a new chapter.

I also realize I am absolutely terrible with giving likes and such myself. I’m a person who will want likes and read something, but then not realize I don’t like things myself... I have become the very thing I’m fighting lol.
