Saw this SNL skit and couldn't help but think about all of us "Janitor Mikes" on CHYOA and elsewhere on the internet. P.S. This post isn't meant to be a dig on anyone here, fanfic writers, or erotica. Great writers are all around and in all types of genres, but sometimes it really is just a random excuse to write about sexy times with [insert your favorite or popular celeb/fandom character here]. But yeah, I have felt like I've been called out before in the past. A writing tutor of mine was listing some common faults found in writing, or on how authors would do this and that when it's not welcomed. A few of those times, I feel like I've been called out specifically, but while I've been shrugged off, it has demotivated me from time to time.
I used to write for some erotic games on Patreon, so I've been called out for my writing by name! That kinda stinks, but no writing is going to please everyone. I try to hew to Vonnegut's 8 rules (https://www.writingclasses.com/toolbox/tips-masters/kurt-vonnegut-8-basics-of-creative-writing) and the rule "Write to please just one person. If you open a window and make love to the world, so to speak, your story will get pneumonia." is what I come back to in that situation. That one person I write for is me, if anyone else likes it that's gravy.
