An easy way to link specific story branches to other people

I'm trying to link specific branches of stories to people, but it's difficult because I'd also have to share which link they should click at the end of each chapter.

I'd like to suggest a way to generate a link from a later chapter that will highlight the links people will need to choose in order to reach that final chapter, to facilitate link sharing.

You can use a fragment in the URL to highlight specific text. For example, https://forum.chyoa.com/threads/an-...282/#:~:text=trying to link specific branches loads this thread with a few words from your post highlighted.

There are probably already tools or browser extensions to generate these. I'm not sure how compatible they would be with a very large story that doesn't load all at once, or a story with many identical chapter names.

 

So you mean like a that starts a walkthrough of a certain path?

 

Hmm, that might work for one chapter, but I don't think it would for an entire path through a story.

One possibility would be to use game mode.

If it is already used for the story, you would simply add additional link chapters that are only available when you activate the walkthrough.

If it isn't used yet, you could set it up for that purpose only. In that case, you might want to ask readers NOT to activate it if they want to have all options.

With game mode, it would also be possible to offer options for different paths.
