    Forum redesign

Yes, looks waaay better! Reasonable whitespace, dash of colour, unread thread indicator is back, text size is good. I'm happy.

    View counts are frozen

View counts have been frozen between 14:00 and 18:00 UTC (inclusive) for the past 3 days.

    Forum redesign

...I don't like it. There's soooo much whitespace I'm wearing out my scroll wheel: The entire front page went from 2 screenfulls to 4. Profile posts are 3/4 of the way down the page, where previously it was already partially visible on page load (for me on my screen, mileage may vary). Latest...

The 'my story doesn't fit a category' headache

I'm not talking about tags in any specific way, but about the basic concept that categories are one-to-one (one story goes into one category) whereas tags are one-to-many (one story can have multiple tags). It's like that scene in WALL-E. If forks go into one box and spoons go into another...

The 'my story doesn't fit a category' headache

Yep. Tags always beat categories. There are no sharp dividing lines between black and white, only shades of grey.

    Post bug reports here!

It's an super trivial issue that I only keep bringing up because it makes my spreadsheet ugly. Thanks for obliging me. :P

I like the new web UI (June 2026)

I just realized that if you click a tag in the sidebar while you're viewing a story, you go to a page that lists the chapters of this story that feature that tag. Super useful! (That is a redesign feature, right? I haven't overlooked that for the past *checks account age...* *groans* 10 years??)

To use AI art/photos or not?

Friends, I was only making a joke.

    Story Etiquette

I'm very much a solo writer, so take this with a grain of salt... but if I were an original author, and someone like you came in and made that kind of transition, I wouldn't mind in the slightest.

Stealing from the theft machine. I like it.

    Follow-Up Question questions

As a writer, I never bother with a follow-up question as a writer*. Why? because as a reader, I never even register it. Because the question is not what's interesting. It never is. The answer is. They can hint at things to come, teasing or joking, tickling readers' curiosity. And as an added...

Thread moved because I think this is the wrong section for it. Chapters versus Nodes - Name Change?

I agree that the standard definition of "chapter" does not quite fit with how it's used on CHYOA by most stories. But "node" is a very generic word with little actual meaning, like "unit", "item" or "object". I have no idea what any of those words mean without context. Whereas "chapter" at least...

...you do it *for* something, and in a lot of cases, the person who is willing to pay the highest *price* for victory is the one who'll win. If you believe you're fighting for your life, but the other person is fighting for the $50 bucks in your wallet, then that person will either give up, of...

Try to think in terms of cost. Yeah, they can control minds, but every action has an equal and opposite reaction. What is the reaction? Another way to approach it is not to think of it in terms of raw strength, but in terms of presence. You sometimes see fans argue about whether superhero X or...

I'm not talking about getting in the mood to write but asking for help getting in the right mindset.

I do some of my best writing right after I watched a really good film or episode, or read (part of) a really good book. It leaves me in a vaguely detached headspace that I find really helps with producing the good shit. I'm not sure how useful that is as a standard approach, since I assume you...

Nevermind! It was one of my user scripts that was screwing up the layout. Oops.
