Is it weird that I have spreadsheets of costume plots? And some research data, images of various types of clothes -- particularly the kinds I don't normally wear (and therefore don't fully understand).
I haven't yet fully dedicated myself to that work, and it doesn't all show up in my writing...
I haven't yet become a lawyer, not since my last post.
Also, I'm not pushing back on anything here, only adding more information. I know blogs and message boards can easily lose "tone of voice" and turn a civil conversation into a flame war -- which is absolutely NOT my intent.
It appears that...
I am still not a lawyer. But in my (limited) experience dealing with copyrighted materials, there are a few things I've seen.
One is that the X number of years since publication isn't always reliable. Some pieces get their copyrights renewed and/or extended. So more than just assuming that X...
I am not a lawyer.
But what is the real question here? Surely you don't need to post huge chunks of another piece of literature as your own story, do you? Or are you making something along the lines of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies where the majority of the piece actually is the original...
Just feeling rambly, and writing this maybe more for my own accountability than anything else. But lately, I've been starting to write the beginnings (and middles) of a lot of threads and subplots ... but then I jump around and leave them in the middle to start a new one or edit an old one or...
I don't write incest stories, and while I've read a few (and enjoyed a few), the only element I ever find exciting is the idea of breaking taboos. That's not unique to incest stories, of course.
I also think there are two main concepts in incest stories in terms of what's taboo. One is about...
I'm trying it in a 2nd-person story I'm working on. I've been a little slow on that project, and while I doubt it's because of the awkward code stuff, I also don't think it's really adding much to the story. I think the 2nd-person idea will work equally well whether the reader picks the...
One obvious difference I see between literature and CHYOA stories is that most people aren't reading full stories here from start to finish. Most people are jumping in and out, threads and beginning and often not ending, and if it's been a while since I've followed a thread, I'm not going to go...
With respect to your choices for your own stories -- I like a cast of characters.
Since this is a choose-your-own-path thing (in which each and every thread may not successfully flesh out all the characters) ... and since there's a story map and the reader can jump into the middle of the action...
Sometimes I think I'm writing more of a "choose your own variation" rather than a "choose your own adventure." In my current story, all of my threads keep reconvening at the same nodes. Each major episode starts and ends the same way, but the branches show either different perspectives or slight...
Gotta be honest, I am enjoying this thread more than a lot of the stories on this site.
Really love these perspectives, thank you all for sharing so much. I've never used spreadsheets for this -- which shocks me, because in my real life, I use spreadsheets all the time.
In my branching...
This is a fantastic theory and system. And because this is the internet and I've been on the planet for a long time, I've learned to doubt everything everyone tells me.
But if this is true, it's fascinating. Thank you.

EDIT: I just tested this a little bit, using the names of the two main...
Preface: I did a little searching for old threads on this topic, and didn't find what I was looking for ... though maybe that's kind of meta, since my issue is about how the search functions on the site work.
When searching for content, I understand most of it, but I don't know how "relevance"...
The adventure itself can be choose-your-own, but the destiny can be predetermined by the author. So there can be countless paths and routes through a story, but if the author (or lead author, or owner, or whatever) is committed to concluding the story a certain way (or at least in a relatively...
Definitely an architect at heart -- but every new set of scaffolding I put up shows me how many new ideas I hadn't yet considered. Most of the time, I map out my threads in great detail -- and then as I'm actually writing, revise and rewrite, usually stretching what I thought was two or three...
Is this a glitch or a feature?
I see that chapter numbers frequently get reused when threads split. For example, I just looked at one of my own stories, and saw that 6.1 is followed by 7.1 ... but 6.2 is ALSO followed by 7.1. In fact, there's yet ANOTHER 6.1 elsewhere (because it followed a...
