How to motivate the reader to comment?

Yeah, the site has been pretty rough the last couple of days. It'll get straightened out but in the meantime, that's an excellent solution assuming readers can be coaxed to respond :)

    Post bug reports here!

I spoke too soon. I just got a series of gateway errors so I guess things are still being looked at.

New story submissions taking longer than 24 hours to get approval?

Well, I was getting lots of errors last night when I went to bed with bad gateway errors and the like that kept me off the site for a while. This morning I'm getting a few of those but the notifications are super slow. I count it as an improvement but not perfect yet. The admins here are really...

New story submissions taking longer than 24 hours to get approval?

I was getting a lot of errors on the site last night, perhaps they've been busy hunting and smashing bugs? Either way, things are smoother this morning, and it looks like Friedman has you covered:)

    Post bug reports here!

I've been getting an occasional "Whoops, looks like something went wrong." and 502 bad gateway errors over the last two days. They only pop up every once in a blue moon but figured I should mention them :)

How to motivate the reader to comment?

You can try asking folks which way they want the story to go or ask other questions to try and nudge folks I guess? I've never really tried though because I don't like trying to make folks feel like they need to. I love the likes and comments I do get though and I'll be interested in seeing what...

    What makes a story popular?

Yeah, I get that different people use them for different reasons. It still makes me feel good when a new like pops up on a chapter I wrote though :)

    Bad Halloween Story Ideas

That sounds like a South Park episode :p

Suggestion in relation to a person’s profile

To a degree, you already can. If you go to a person's about page on CHYOA, you can see what they have liked, commented on, and published. If they left it on, you can even see when they were last on the site. I'm not sure I'd want the system providing much more information than that though

    New Author Looking for Help

Maybe? I've only published one so I'm not sure if my experience was fast, slow, or average. Hopefully they OK it soon for you!

    New Author Looking for Help

Yes. When you publish a new story, the mods have to OK it. I've only done one so far myself and that took about 4 or 5 hours to get a green light. More prolific writers may be able to give you a better timeframe :)

    What makes a story popular?

Beats me. I don't get tons of likes or comments. I just write what makes me happy and I'm glad the occasional CHYOA denizen bothers to read it :)

It has been fixed. I haven't seen the problem in days now. Thanks!

Come and post your opening lines...

He didn't get what he wanted so he disowned her. He's an asshole ;)

Come and post your opening lines...

I only have one story started (and it's been sitting for a while) but I think I started it OK. Dawn wasn't quite sure what to do with herself at this point. The moment she informed her father she had a full-ride scholarship to Ricard Academy, he went ballistic. Her father was a two-star general...

    Double take: hot or horrific?

What I can write depends on me being able to connect with it somehow. I can write about unpleasant things if I'm really into the character. I can also write stuff I like without caring about the characters at all. I have to have a 'hook' of some sort or it just doesn't work. That normally...

    When to cut losses?

I'll admit I have one whole story sitting out there that I haven't touched in a while. When I find writing time, I keep getting distracted by other folks' shiny stories and add chapters there instead. I've yet to even be tempted to delete it though. I just let it sit for now. Since it costs me...

Convo starter- What inspires your stories

I started one story based on a character I've written short stories about since high school. She's just a mishmash of daydreams and stories I've doodled over the years. Most of my writing here comes from reading a story, having something in it pop an idea into my head, and adding a few chapters.

    Rant

Sorry to hear that. Except for my little 'freewriting' story, I've stayed away from starting one of my own largely because I get writer's block a lot and am wary of depending on others to help out.
