Some stories are so wast that i dont want the notifications of every single new chapter. Im normally just interested in 2-3 story lines.
You can use bookmarks for this. The site will notify you when another chapter is added to the one you've marked.
Does this mean chapters all the way down or just direct children of that chapter? I'd almost love to put a vote in for the opposite which is 'Un-favouriting' (without notifying the author as that'd be rude) so you don't get notifications about certain threads as while I like most vast stories there are some threads that I really don't like and would prefer to not have their new chapters in those threads apear in my notification
If this option were added, it would be VITAL that the author NOT be informed when someone takes advantage of this feature. I can't think of a faster way to kill your motivation than to be suddenly informed that fifty of your readers don't like where you took the story, and won't be reading it any more if you continue to write on that topic.
Absolutely. When I think of a situation this would work, there's large stories like Rulebook/Normality where there is frequently a 'fan-fic'/anime branch which while I totally understand some people would really find enjoyable, I personally have no interest in. It can be annoying when you see there's a new chapter published with a heading that looks exciting and you then realise it's in one of those brances and doesn't really interest you Nothing against the author and I wouldn't want them to know/think there is. It's just a preference thing.
I had no idea that's how bookmarks worked, damn. I only put them on the first chapter of stories I liked but didn't want notifications on, this changes everything!
Another option in those cases, that I personally use, is to add the author of those branches that you like to favorite authors. I still favorite stories that I like but I have disabled notifications based on the favorite option, so instead I receive notifications when the author of the branch I like publish new chapters. Of course, this is useful for authors who mostly contribute to a single story, this option could no be valid for other authors who are more prolific with multiple stories at the same time, but usually when I like the branch in one story of one author I do not mind check their other stories.
This is a really good idea. Together with a "Ignore Path" button this could simplify things in the Story Map. Like clicking Follow on a chapter will allow you to highlight every chapter after that one and clicking Ignore would do the same, just with different colors. You can also add a Collapse and Expand button for both options, add more options for the notification...
