Since the start of Chyoa in April the daily visits have more than doubled. References on high-traffic sites, such as Reddit, lead to temporary traffic spikes. In such cases the number of MySQL database connections increases which results in a slowdown of the site – page requests last longer. Since the affected values, such as the maximum number of database connections, can't be changed on the current server environment, I have scheduled a server change for tomorrow. Chyoa gets a new server environment with twice the performance and enhanced control capabilities. The server change will take place on September 24, 2014 at 10am UTC. The transfer takes about 60 minutes. During this time it's not possible to create new stories or new threads, post comments or rate threads. Reading stories is possible. Thanks for your patience.
The server change is now complete. If you still see the maintenance notice, I recommend to flush your DNS cache.
Pages are loading faster, but there is an odd glitch. If you make a new page or edit an old one, all " and ' will show visible escape characters (\" and \'). This only happens if you make or edit a thread; any threads that are untouched stay normal. Added info: the \s will proliferate if you don't take action. They will show up in the editor, bit when you save it will always add a new one, so you get a new \ after every edit.
I have noticed. at least with me, that I haven't had my view count updated since the changeover. Don't know if anyone else has had this problem.
Dear Friedman, I think that story feedback and comments service needs some improvement. There is no notification about feedback and there is no way to see, if someone replied to your comment in other story except to check it in exact thread.
For the above suggestion, how about this: if someone comments on a thread, they get notified of additional comments to that thread.
