The reason I despise Grammarly is because Grammarly tries to rewrite the story for me. I don't want anything that tries to write the story for me. I want something that just points out the problems and lets me decide how I want to fix the problems. Art is knowing when to break the rules and breaking them intentionally. This goes for music (knowing when to throw in a little discord or when to disrupt the rhythm), painting (knowing when to paint the sky red, yellow or purple) and literature (knowing when to say ain't or when to start a sentence with a conjunction or when to end a sentence with a preposition). I want an editor that will just point things out to me so that I'm not breaking the rules accidentally, such as making a typo.
Grammarly can be annoying but I've yet to find a better editing program. I just use the free version and I've got used to it now. Going to keep an eye on this post though in the hope a better option appears.
