Anyone else delay chapters you’ve already written?

The other day I had a real splurge of creativity and wrote one chapter for almost all of my stories. But I didn’t post them immediately. I waited and posted them all together as a big dump.

Did it do a lot for my visibility? No idea. Did it feel weirdly fun to have all my stories up on the main page’s recently updated list? Yes.

I'll do it sometimes, though usually only when I reach a "Bad End" chapter so I can have the chapter(s) that continue the story available along with it.

Yeah. I'm not too big on visibility - it's difficult to 'game' the system, anyway - but editing is part of my process. I like to polish my chapters before I publish them, and part of that is not looking at the chapter for some time so I can reread it with a fresh perspective. This means I need to write several in advance so that I can keep up my updating frequency. In my more complex, non-linear story, it's also important to synchronise certain chapters - that is, if you decide to change something in one chapter, that could affect the way a seemingly unrelated chapter is written and coded.

For the game one I'm writing, it loops at each ending and you keep your score, so I will hold releasing any chapters until it's a complete route where every branch is closed off with some sort of ending.

It's not as good in terms of publicity (you'll be on front page much less often doing it that say) but I think I as a reader prefer it that way, in the specific instance of a multi branch game at least.
