Appearance Improvement: Upload different image for different appearance

Okay, I know I have suggested many things recently but they were all about game mode and this isn't so here it is.

CHYOA has three appearance option(white, black, and sepia) whenever you upload an image with white, black or sepia background it mixes with the site's background. If you are posting such an image this mixing might be your intention, however you have to mention "use this appearance" at the start for this to work.

I think there should be a way to upload more than one image and image changes with the appearance. If someone does not want to use this new feature their image will be same in all appearance but it would be cool if image can change with appearance.

An interesting and unusual suggestion. Could you perhaps resolve this by using images with transparent backgrounds?

I will admit I feel stupid after reading your reply but I still think this might be something worth doing. Using transparent background solves most of the images but sometimes even the image itself need contrast with background so if there is a way you can change an image with appearance of the site it might help.

But I realize after reading your reply my suggestion may not be worth the hassle.

Just take my profile photo as an example with white background it looks good(to me at least) but with black appearance using your transparent background suggestion would just mean having a black space instead of that line representing blank.
There may be some other examples.

But I have seen some chapters where the author recommends using a particular appearance option just so an image in the chapter look better. Being able to upload more images might solve that.
To ensure nothing breaks in previous stories one image could be used for all options.

I don't like the idea of having different images as users could upload actually different images of which some might violate the rules but go rather unnoticed.

Maybe there could be a fancy color calculation that would fade around the cover image.

I don't know what that means. Are you talking about transparent background? If yes, insertnamehere suggested it
And it solves my problem but as I already said above, some images need contrast which is not possible with transparent background.

I didn't even thought of that. You could check for all images but if it is creating so much problem maybe this idea really isn't worth it.

I meant violation of rule going unnoticed. I was thinking of being able to upload different images that is what the suggestion is after all.

If you have a photo representing a character of the story, you could change that too according to appearance of site. You could even tell readers to try changing appearance to see different images.

No... I rather meant that you would analize color of the image's border pixels and calculate an "average" color.
Then create an additional border of maybe 30 pixels around the image.
The color in that border would then fade from the "average color" to the background color.
(I'm not sure if that's possible but I think it is.)

I don't know if it will work.

By the way after searching a lot on CHYOA I have found a story where a few chapter needs this. The story is "the gamer chyoa addition" (I am pretty sure you are familiar with it, By the way story map doesn't work properly for this story after collapsing a chapter it didn't show chapters on same level maybe because it is too big for this site.)

This chapter needs black appearance. This one needs sepia appearance. This one needs white.

I have also thought of a way to use it. Global variables. I know it seems like a solution for game mode but I don't think you need game mode for this.
If you define a few global variables like "appearance" e.g. if a reader has appearance white "appearance" variable is 1, 2 for black 3 for sepia. And something like this can be used for other stuff like showing number of views or chapter for your story. Since these values are not dependent on what chapter reader has visited it can work outside game mode.

So what do you think of this?

Also assuming moderators can view the if statements(I am assuming this as moderators have to check chapters for malicious content and an easy way to hide it is under if statements) checking for different images won't be hard.

I think it should be possible. (Or you could type in an RGB hex code)

The reason why users choose black mode or sepia mode is that it is more eye-friendly for them.
Forcing a certain mode contradicts that idea.

I am not forcing a certain mode in fact I am trying to make the images suitable for all appearance.

Maybe I should have explained more.
I am suggesting global variables that have values like, what is the appearance or the number of views etc. If these variables can be used outside game mode this problem will be solved.

Using if statement author can choose what image to show by checking appearance value and moderators can check all images too.
