I am for an automatic message for new members. It can give those who lurk on the site, but don't register a chance to see what they were missing once they do sign in. Should you add the persons page also, so they know how to access and understand the trophy's and friends, and stats.
Umm, well... this suggestion aimed at freshly registered users. Though your idea sounds interesting as well.
I would presume this will be done in automatic email upon registering. My one concern is that it will fall into spam folder for some people.
I rather thought about using the CHYOA messaging system which would result in a red highlighted "1" on the top of the site. A downside from that could be that you'd need a "sender" who would get a lot of conversations and maybe some questions (except stating sth like "Don't answer to this message but send a message to ...")
Yeah, email would be better. However if you open up a page explaining everything for new members the moment they open a new account that would work too. Maybe have it available for anyone to read if they need a review.
I think the NMI is superior as it can't be marked as spam. EDIT: and we DON'T want CHYOA getting spam-flagged.
