I discovered this site today and I am interested in writing something here. Currently I post on DeviantART, Hentai-Foundry, and Literotica. None of them are ideal. Ive got a finished 390,000 word erotic story that I would love to post somewhere better but this site isnt really set up for it either. Publishing is an option but I am not sure the best way to do that either. Is there a novel section? I feel like it would be a good idea if there isnt. If not, then where would you recommend? Publishing advice?
You have to decide for yourself whether you want to publish and monetize it. (Or do both in one order or another.) If you publish it here, don't publish everything at once. Copy in your first chapter, publish it, and wait until the story is approved. Then, split up the rest of the chapters and post them one by one. (After the story is approved, you could add them as draft chapters.) Given the size, you could publish a chapter every day or even more frequently. If you want, you could also mention your publishing schedule and that your story is finished.
Thanks for the reply! This site seems geared towards smaller chapters. I wrote it in 54 chapters averaging 7,000 words each. It might be difficult to break it up even farther than that. I was just curious if there was a special section for novels. Either way I might make something new just for this site. If anyone has any advice for editing and/or publishing, I'd love to hear it.
I feel your pain. Sites for novel length erotica are hard to find. I posted a novel length story on here that didn't really go down well. The handful of people who read it enjoyed though, which was encouraging. I searched high and low for a good site and never really found one. It depends on the format of your novel and how polished it is, and also how much work you want to put into the marketing. At the top end of all that you could publish on amazon or maybe Watpad, but they generally need a lot of work to get it to the right quality and then market it. At the other end of the scale is stuff like Literotica (which hate with a passion.) is another option, but again it's far from ideal. I'd be interested to see if you find a site that's suitable, I've been looking for ages.
For another site to post on you might want to look into Ao3[Archive of our own] they have over 11 million stories on site with a length ranging from a few hundred words to tens of millions for some stories. Granted most are fanfiction, with less then 250,000 being original works. Of those original work less then 60k are explicit in nature, with the best original work receiving over a million views. The best work is rather short being under 13k in words, however third with over 800k views has just under 1.4 million words. So both long and short works can get attention as long as the writing is good. If you are interested in posting your works there, it will take awhile to get an account(roughly two weeks) so you can keep looking at other options while you wait. P.S. The stats for the best non original book for the explicit category is over 5 million views and just under 400k words. So while fanfiction is favored on the site, original works aren't completely neglected.
