The book alters memories or makes things socially acceptable somehow and it turns into a playground for the protagonist. So what I’m asking instead is what if a bunch of physical changes were implemented on a planet wide scale but almost no mental changes came with it? How would people react in the short term vs the long term, having their entire lives thrown on their head by a random pervert? What would be the government response if any? What if the president was now a femboi? I have some of these answers but I want to see if there are more interesting questions or answers that I missed that I can run with.
I've mentioned before that I really dislike when authors introduce Super Weird Fetish Thing... and then make it Completely Normal In This World. Ruins all the fun. So you have my full support and undivided interest! Unfortunately, I think that either with or without mental changes, Tom has basically ended human civilization overnight. Even small changes like a 2% recession, a tiny little COVID-19 pandemic, or a mere doubling of the gas prices can turn the world upside down, and this is a million times more intense. Everyone would basically be dysfunctional for weeks. You know what happens when no one on the planet works for 2 weeks? Everyone fucking dies. By day 2, supermarkets are empty. By day 5, there's hunger on a truly inconceivable scale, and fire fights break out on the streets of every major city over the last remaining food. Tap water stops running. The only institution that retains a semblance of internal order and discipline is the military, and that's bad for us, because they have the nukes, and international tensions are suddenly astronomically high. By the end of the year, 99.5% of humanity will be dead. Tom is the only person on the planet who actually deserves to die, and he does, along with all other Alphas in all probability. The remaining few people left desperately trying to eke out an existence on remote farms before nuclear winter sets in. Oops. On the bright side, half of the remaining women will still have really big tits, eh? The monkey's paw curls. I think you'd need to slow everything waaaaay the hell down for it to have the remotest chance of working. Transformations should take months, if not years. All that exercise is finally beginning to pay off and you find yourself beating your PBs week after week after week. Your tits look particularly big/small lately, don't they? Am I gaining/losing weight, or is it just hormones? I'm sure I could reach that top shelf before. Weird, but it's probably nothing. Pooping has sure been smooth recently, I just wish I wouldn't soak through toilet paper so easily. And if you're on of the very, very few: hm, was my dick always this big?
I don’t think it occurs to Tom to do this slow. So without the monkey paw curling what would be one step down from total catastrophe? I set the nanite control system to stretch the changes over about a week. I think taking it out of Tom’s hands is the way to go.
Yeah, I think it's totally fine for Tom to be kind of a dumbass, or at least someone who doesn't quite grasp the magnitude of the disruption he's about to inflict on the world. Frankly, if you lampshade it really hard, "everything was super weird for a while, but people got used to it surprisingly quickly. <100k words of sexy stuff>", you can probably get away with the reactions in your story not being profoundly realistic. If you wanted to, you could still do the XK-class end-of-the-world scenario as a 1-chapter joke branch, ending with Tom realizing how stupid he was.
I think the biggest immediate response is that people would recognize that someone has reality-altering power and immediately start searching for and attempting to control that person. If Tom *wasn't* obviously changed, he'd be the world's most wanted man.
It seems like those men would either become lords of their own sexual fiefdoms or be completely overrun by the others.
