It is approved and newer threads that were approved after it are showing. I believe the problem lies in me editting the name of the parent thread's title. To try and reconstruct things, I believe this is how it went: I submitted a thread to a story ($10 Whore), calling it 'Shane's buddy is actually his new girlfriend, a stripper'. After clicking save I realized it was a bit long, and had a good branch point earlier in the post. So, I editted the post, cut out the part about her being a stripper so that it could end at a question of 'Where does Rosie work'. I then pasted the cut text into a child thread declaring the answer to be 'as a stripper'. Today I found that the threads were approved, but that I'd left ', a stripper' in the title of the original thread. Since what her job is was made the subject of the question, and her being a stripper merely one of the options, it didn't make sense to leave that in the title. I removed ', a stripper' from the title of the thread. Now I find that the child thread doesn't get listed in the story map. I'm not sure if it did before I changed the name of the parent thread, but it seems that since people are going to be able to edit the thread titles then the site should be able to take these kinds of changes. Of course, maybe I'm mis-attributing the cause.
I have rebuilt the story map for $10 Whore. The cause was the tree traversal bug (chronologically newer threads are approved before older ones by the owner/editor).
