    Hi,

Potentially stupid question here, but what exactly does Misc., Fetish, and Erotic Coupling mean?

Technically, everything on the site can fall under Erotic Coupling, and assuming you tag it, everything is a Fetish.

So if anyone can help me with my confusion, I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks,

They are sort of three ways to say "whatever doesn't fall in the other categories".
There are a few threads about this already.

Although fetish is more like "Generic story about a fetish", which would mean something like doing a whole story about diapers stuff or pegging or even exhibitionism (which has its own category though).
I don't know why someone would want to put a story in that category when any story would surely have some other relevant characteristic to make it fall into one of the other mayor categories.

While erotic coupling would be something along the lines of "Super blank smut story with no meaningful plot whatsoever".

And misc, well misc it's like "Man, I don't like tags and categories and labels. Why everything has to be one thing or another? Jeez..."

    I don't agree.

Miscellaneous might mean that there are different categories combined. Or as a catch-all category.
That said, I don't like that category at all and don't think it doesn't do a story any good.

For me, Fetish feels like a category for things that aren't just common kinks. So kind of niche things that are quite specific.

And Erotic Couplings could be defined as
    Romance without the "romance crap"

(Though I don't really like the current category system.)

So, I currently have a germ of an idea, about a family of four (Mom, Dad, two sons) and some independent scenarios or story lines for each of them.

At current, I'm trying to avoid Incest, but that might end up on the table too.

I'm exploring Swinging, some sort of party scenario, and maybe a romance storyline.

Would you put this down as Misc?

    Uh, swinging maybe?

I dunno, what do the character do apart being a family?

    Nothing.

Apart from a few supporting or maybe slightly antagonistic interactions, the storylines (as of right now) have nothing to do with each other.

Hmm, not the best way to sell your story, that's for sure.

Anyhoo, categories are just a mean to organize and advertise to the possibly interest audience the stories. If you feel no need of either of the two things, just go for misc and forget about it all.

I wouldn't use Misc for any story.

Swinging sounds like a good choice.
That would obviously cover swinging and probably party scenarios as well.
Depending on the circumstances, a romance branch would fit there anyway.
Though I don't think it would be too bad if not as you could just use the major theme for the category.

And if you're not happy with the category later, you could still change it.

    Hm...

    Thanks for the feedback.

Will take all that into consideration.
