I have sad news for all loyal Muppets fans. After years of being in a relationship that showed children and adults that it is possible to overcome the odds, no matter of race or color, Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy have decided to split up. Both of the former couple have issued statements on their official Twitter feeds, but here I will supply the Yahoo News story that caught my attention on the matter. This is a sad day for all who saw this couple as a beacon of what a real relationship should be. https://celebrity.yahoo.com/blogs/c...kermit-the-frog-and-miss-piggy-175456253.html
This was no surprise to anyone who had seen the presentation film for the new series "The Muppets" that premieres this fall. The premise of that series is that the Muppets are working behind the scenes on a talk show hosted by Miss Piggy -- and a major source of conflict is that Kermit and Miss Piggy have to maintain a professional relationship despite the fact that their longtime romantic relationship has ended (and Kermit is interested in another female pig who works on the show...).
I personally think this is hilarious. Even the muppets are making fun of celebrity breakups now. I wonder how they will work this show, because it seems less like a child show and more geared towards older audiences with the premise you laid out Catfish27.
I agree, to be honest I actually kinda like this twist on their relationship. largely because i find it hard to believe that someone as sweet and kindhearted as Kermit could put up with such an overbearing and domineering sow for so long. graanted part of the comedy was always the notion of Piggy chasing after Kermit and Kermit being too terrified to say no, because there was a part of him that actually cared, but usually whenever Piggy wasn't trying so hard and actually showcased her more sweet and vulnerable nature, which wasn't very often. still if you trace things back all the way to the original Muppet Show, Piggy usually tried all kinds of tricks to try and make Kermit jealous or to manipulate him in some fashion, and any time one of Piggy's scenes backfired, it was usually her underlings that received the brunt of her fury. Piggy may be a lot of things, talented, funny, strong willed, but she is also the ultimate BITCH. This was even portrayed to a great extent on Muppet Babies, her tendency to scream at the top of her lungs whenever she didn't get her way, or the abuse she would inflict on poor Gonzo, and of course that deluded little masochist always took it as a sign of affection. sorry to go off on a tangent, but its just amazing the little things you can infer given just how pervasively subversive something like the Muppets can be.
As it turned out, they sort of retooled the show halfway through the season because they discovered that people didn't want all the relationship drama with Kermit, Miss Piggy, and the other female pig -- so they more or less got Kermit back together with Miss Piggy and eliminated that other pig. But it didn't help enough -- the network announced last week that the show was canceled and will not be back for a second season. (So it's interesting that this thread got bumped now!)
