Related to this suggestion by Smisenost https://forum.chyoa.com/threads/feature-request-collapse-left.1206/#post-16683 Instead of collapsing ever time a new chapter is added stories with page after page will not indent and instead stack on top of each other like below. If two branches or added then the chapter would indent. Linear stories would be straight down on the story map. Chapter 1.1 (Introduction) ╠ Chapter 2.1 ║ Chapter 3.1 ║ Chapter 4.1 ║ Chapter 5.1 ║ Chapter 6.1 ║ ╠ Chapter 7.1 ║ ╚ Chapter 7.2 ╚ Chapter 2.1
Why are there two chapters labeled "2.1"? And what about the follow up chapters of 7.1 and 7.2? With your suggestion, they would all be on the same level? I'd imagine that this would make it difficult to distinguish different choices from follow up chapters. I agree that the current system isn't perfect, especially on mobile, but i'm not convinced that your suggestion is much better. Perhaps with a graphical concept and a side by side comparison one could get a better impression and judge the differences.
Human error Could be solved by automatic spacing. Chapter 1.1 (Introduction) ╠ Chapter 2.1 ║ Chapter 3.1 ║ Chapter 4.1 ║ Chapter 5.1 ║ Chapter 6.1 ║ ╠ Chapter 7.1 ║ ║ ║ ╚ Chapter 7.2 ║ ╚ Chapter 2.2
That looks like a good solution for linear stories but like a desaster for stories with lots of branches.
It will take a little getting used. Secondary option would be for the reader to be able to switch back and forth depending on the story.
Going back to this for a moment. Is there a way to show main chapters only at first then you can click on one that will show all the branches that from that chapter. For example 6.1 as shown above has chapters. 6.1 and all chapters within 6.1 would reveal while others could hide.
Lovecraft chronicles: school days- sadly I couldn't really get into the story and lost interest writing it.
i like your suggestion RicoLouis because it is relativly similar to how it looked before the mess we have now. the way it was sorted before the current one was way better both in keeping track of where you were in the story and which branch and so on.
