Since thumb down votes were disabled some time ago (and in case that they are not supposed to come back), it would be nice if the existing down-votes could be removed as well. Why do i suggest this? a) Seems unfair, that new stories cannot receive down votes, but old stories still have some. b) I assume that these old down-votes could still play a part in rating and ordering during search or even in the selection of Top Stories. Assuming that there is a database, the site Administration could perhaps write and run a script to remove the existing downvotes with hopefully minimal effort.
The question then is how do we determine the top ten. Personally I am all for this though after we get a poll system in stories. I would rather it be based on favorites. One vote per person per story.
Good ideas, @dingsdongs and @RicoLouis! I've removed the down votes and updated the top ten lists accordingly.
And just like that, the site goes from all three top stories being focused on Non-con, to none of them! Thanks Friedman, you're the best!
