I fucked up. I lost a few hours of work after I tried to click back on my CHYOA tab and exited out by accident. Of course this was the particular time that I was not just copy/pasting from a word Document and I didn't save a draft of it. It made me think of how some sites have a pop-up that asks if you're sure you want to exit in some scenarios, like on Facebook if you have something typed. feelsbadman
+1. While this has not happened to me yet, I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
+1 before i started writing on Google Docs, I lost count of the amount of chapters I lost by clicking the wrong place! Hell even to ask if you're sure you want to leave the site when just reading would be nice. I'm forever logging out, finding a new story to read and having to log back in to view the story map!
Duplicate of Prompt before improperly leaving the edit page Totally agree on that (as I stated in the linked thread) There I also described a workaround with a 3rd party app. (Or see here) Losing content is really annoying and actually, I lost about 400 words last weekend. I use the above-mentioned browser extension which works very well but couldn't protect me in that case. I just wanted to find out why my adblocker didn't work anymore and clicked "reload" which just closed the browser without any prompt. So, for a general solution, I'd prefer a function which automatically saves the drafts like suggested here. As this is not a "voteable" suggestion yet, someone might want to make one in the suggestion forum. There might be also different ways of doing it with some advantages or disadvantages, so some input/ideas on that could be helpful.
Welp, lost another chapter. I had hoped for a more casual return to writing without needing MS Word, but that doesn't seem to be in the case. I would even be okay if the text was stored temporarily, like if you restored the tab in the same session the text was still there. That would solve my issues. That automatic draft save sounds neat too, though that post was from two years ago which is a bit concerning. I'm actually surprised that an issue that has lost so much content for the site has existed for this long without a non-3rd party solution.
I'm pretty sure that it is still planned. Though it won't hurt if someone creates a suggestion for it. Altering the browser controls can be seen as a malicious behavior of a website, so not everyone likes that. That reminds me of ads which try to prevent closing with these popups. And again, users might want to be able to quickly close an NSFW site, so I prefer the solution with the 3rd party app. (Though I'd also like to have periodically saved drafts)
