I recently heard about these individuals in a thread that I refuse to touch with a ten foot pole, so I turn to the community to answer the question posed in the thread tittle, is there some kind of dark sub-genre to this site I don't know about? (The Rape and Mind Control ones I was already well aware of, and the relative darkness of certain forms of incest [which is most of what I see on here] is debatable.)

The cuckold trolls, as henrytemp said, were a few individuals who kept bugging writers on the story "The Afterparty" to delete threads that featured the main character being cuckolded in some way or another or just insulting said writers instead of ignoring the threads and look for others.

I wasn't a fan of that branch's ending, but I didn't see a need to delete anything. I am not a cuckold fan, but as you said Duskford, they could simply ignore it and find another thread to read.

Nobody publicly called for a deleting of threads (that I can remember). Of course you shouldn't remove threads just because people don't like them. That's ridiculous.

Having the cuckold tag as the sole tag on the story is misleading though. I've said that before.

I notice you've not denied the part about being insulting, asxdar.

That is true, no one actually called for deletion of cuckold threads. However, you did make it clear you wanted people to stop writing cuckold threads while describing such work disparagingly in a subjective and lowbrow manner. Be it deletion or cessation, the end result is that henceforth the protagonist must get the object of its affection. The meaningful difference between these two amounts to the difference between the terms "none" and "virtually none"; your proposed solution combined with the forward passage of time would make the percentage of cuckold threads diminish until it was almost zero.

True again, but that's much less ridiculous than someone writing a negative review or leaving a condescending comment of a work based solely on said person's own personal preferences instead of the quality of the work and how well it achieved the goal its creator sought.

That's what happens when the only additions with tags are cuckold threads. If you would like to fix this, perhaps you could message Cloontang1 with a list of additional tags for the story, or write your own thread for the story with its own tags. This is not a hard problem to solve and should not have escalated to the point where a single thread's comments are devoted to discussing the validity of cuckold's presence in the story, let a lone a forum topic to discuss said comments.

There are certainly some comments that I made that I've later regretted, but not that many. I've commented on the work itself but I never have gone out of my way to personally attack a writer. Obviously, there's a difference between stating what you like/don't like and flaming the author. There should be a rule in the ToS that allows mods to delete comments that do that. I took a quick look through the guide, but didn't see anything.

What I lamented (and I've said this) is that the cuck thread became the main hub of the story for months. That is, it was the only thing getting updated and discussed, which was disappointing. That's what I meant. People will obviously write what they want, but I like engaging with branches, even if I don't like them.

And censoring threads is absolutely more insane than some person leaving a negative review. It seems a little head-scratching to argue otherwise. I've left plenty of legitimate criticism that address character continuity, motivations, and rationality. As for tags, I believe it was duskford that told me that Cloontang doesn't really keep up with the site/story anymore. So I could try your suggestion but I'm skeptical as to what affect it would really have. I don't know why this topic was made either or what the purpose of it is.

Simple Curiosity, which has been well and thoroughly satisfied, and then some: Mod Lock Please!

You commented not to discuss the quality of the work, but its focus. You objected to writers for what they like, not how they go about it. That's attacking a writer.

Agreed. However, we were talking about malicious reviews, not genuine. Malicious reviews are the groundwork of censorship; people only censor what they view maliciously. For a simple example: on the original CHYOO, someone's repeated malice led to many new writers deleting their contributions and leaving as well as caused some to stop visiting the forums unless it was an emergency - an informal censorship, as per his plan to eliminate anyone who would disagree with him. Stopping the malice is the core of stopping the censorship. The only reason I place malice higher is censorship has the potential in it to mean well.

Then submit a thread and add tags that way. Assuming it's of any quality, it will be approved eventually, even if you or Friedman have to do it.

    Granted. Topic locked.
