The first thing that jumps out at me is you are using a copyrighted image as your story cover, I wouldn't do that if I were you. The second thing that struck me is that you telegraph too much of the plot with your title and first chapter. All-in-all, this could be a good story, but right now it really doesn't grab me...
Is there any real trouble with using copyrighted images? These stories aren't monetized, at least not directly, and it doesn't violate the site rules AFAIK. Almost every story that has images is using them without permission, and were just collected from a Google search.
Looking around the site I am unable to find anything on copyright laws relating to the site. This maybe something to ask Friedman.
I feel I must clarify, Friedman and co have no such policy that I am aware of, but could be forced to remove your story, (due to the obviously watermarked cover,) by deviant art.
Worst case scenario the picture gets removed, not the story. Even then, it's no different than using a copyrighted super hero in your story, or setting it in a copyrighted world, something even the top stories do regularly. It all falls under fair use.
You know, I feel I must point out that very few of the top stories are not set in original worlds... But, I suppose you're right, only the image would probably be removed. That said, the watermark does bother me as a reader, it ruins the flow of the image, I'd encourage the OP to find a clean pic to use.
