As it says in the rules on the CHYOA Guide, the site employs the Harkness Test. Non-humans with human features and intelligence are A-OK so long as they satisfy all the other rules.
there's a fairly involved discussion about which types of aliens and mythical creatures would pass or fail the test at https://chyoa.com/chapter/Rules.560688 but yeah, as long as they're intelligent enough, can use language and are mature within their own race (equiv to 18 or over in humans) then they're fine.
