What qualifies as extreme violence? If something qualifies as extreme violence, how can I tweak it to not qualify?
Well, one can argue over qualification but i would draw the line somewhere at limbs severing and gut spilling. In a story i did i actually had somebodies arm cut off and to de-escalate it i just used as little gory details as possible. By that i mean i concentrated on where the cut was and how it happened and less on the amount of blood or screams of pain. Makes the scene a little less impactful but in the grand scheme of things it is not that important.
I think it it more means violence during sex. So a hero could go around cutting off all the arms he wants to as long as he isn't doing it in the middle of a sex scene. So no violent rape scenes or stuff like that.
I would find it odd if it was limited to sex scenes. Then again i didn't make the rules so i don't know.
There are a bunch of stories that a fantasy/sci-fi RPGs that your character could kill monsters, which is acceptable. Like RicoLouis said, I think the rule applies to violence mixed in with sex.
Hmm... I wasn't going to mix violence with sex, but would full-on, Aztec-style ritual sacrifice be acceptable?
As others have already said, I believe the rule mainly pertains to sex or the sexualized glorification of extreme violence - with all of those elements being present. I go with the basic introduction of the rule - this is not a slasher porn site. Put this way - in mainstream fantasy or military or other settings there's violence all the time. I'd assume if the story is at a point where the violence is in a setting where it would be acceptable for mainstream literature, it would be acceptable here.
I'm guessing it would depend on the surrounding details. There's a good chance it could be acceptable, I'd imagine, and numerous ways in which it could be made unacceptable. People generally know porn when they see it. If its a smutty ritualized sacrifice, it will come through that way. Like Nemo said, in the end its up to the mods.
I'm planning a story with a biker gang. Something like that is bound to have a ton of violence, probably some fairly brutal murders. Probably a torture/interrogation element. It's not really something I want to avoid, but at the same time, I don't want to violate the site's rules. I'm happy to put up a disclaimer if/when I write the story.
