As I mentioned in a Profile Post the other day, I have been thinking of attempting to run a "Classic" Fantasy (sexual) RPG. I have multiple years of RL D&D under my belt on top of a two year long run of a campaign(level 1-12) a few years back and have started up a new campaign just recently. Although I have never really managed to play in a PbP setting/campaign. Now we get to the meat of the subject at hand which is what format to run the RPG in. My first reaction is clearly and obviously the 3.5 edition of Dungeons&Dragons. Not only does 3.5e have one of the largest archives of races, classes, and choices, but there's also various online resources and compendiums for non-standard races(and Monster Classes). It's also the system that I have the most experience with. There are some obvious problems with this and the biggest one is that you need the source material to know what to do. There are ways and places that you can look up Core game concepts online and with a character sheet, you can make a character. However, the core mechanics of 3.5 are passable, but fairly limited compared to the literal hundreds of books of supplemental material that is out there. The second option is Pathfinder. Pathfinder is essentially an OGL D&D. It's based on the 3.5 edition of D&D and you can find most, if not all of the material you need to make and play a character on D20PFSRD for it. There are a fair few drawbacks to this particular thing. I'm far less knowledgeable of Pathfinder mechanics, but due to the fact that it's basically an OGL 3.5e, I could probably make it work. There are also fewer options overall...although those options are more customizable. Ultimately, if there are going to be stats or character sheets, Pathfinder is probably the way I would want to go. Just because of the broad amount of accessibility to it there is. Finally, we have the third option. "Undefined" or no stats. That is a style where pretty much anything is done without stats. It would basically be run like some of the more successful Sexual RPGs of the past such as Monster Girl Adventure. You have a character and defined abilities, but it relies less on stats and dice rolls and more on roleplay. This style is more flexible in many ways, but it's also fairly easily abused by both player and DM. It's easy for someone to believe that they should be able to do something and then get disappointed or angry when they can't. In a way, Dice are The Great Equalizer and why most tabletop RPG's require their use. __________________________ As for the campaign itself. It'll be a High Fantasy world that I have used for all of my campaigns. I need to touch up the map a bit, but I'll be working on that amongst other things. No gunpowder. Race and classwise, I'm pretty relaxed with just about anything. Human, non-human, monsters. Although it's important to note that some races and species aren't going to be accepted very well in certain areas and some could potentially be reviled and classes will largely be dependant on what system is decided upon. Characters can get others pregnant or become pregnant and certain birth control methods will be available. Compatability for something like that will probably be decided by me or the Book of Erotic Fantasy even if we don't do 3.5. Also not using any birth control methods doesn't guarantee a pregnancy will occur nor are certain methods guaranteed to prevent a pregnancy. I'm not going to flat-out ban dark or extreme content as those themes could be present in certain aspects. Things like say rape. Bad NPC's could theoretically try to do it to your character and your character could theoretically do it to other NPC's(I don't recommend PC/PC rape though. That could lead to tattered disposition and foul tastes in the mouth). Also keep in mind that doing bad things leads to bad consequences if you get caught and if you for some reason decide to play an evil character with depraved interests in a party of good people, then bad things might happen to your character. With that said, it's not going to be a constant theme. I'm simply warning people that it could come up depending on the direction of the story. If that's a make or break decision for anyone interested, then I fully understand. I know certain themes are distasteful for some. Even if it's a rare occurrence.
Oooh. I do favor fantasy fiction over science fiction, but while I don't think there's an actual site rule to how many things are person can join at once, it's probably better if I don't start a bunch of things at once. But...sure is tempting. Like really leaning towards wanting in on this anyway.
Sine I am not familiar enough with both 3.5E and Pathfinder I voted "Undefined". I'm interested in giving this a try.
I have a pathfinder book around somewhere from my brief and unsuccessful attempt to RL DM, and I know the character building aspects of 3.5 fairly well. If we have rules I can latch onto, with dice, I might be in.
Much as I want to join if PCs can get Raped/Commit Rape I'm out: good luck and thanks for being upfront about that...
I fully understand and that's why I brought it up. Even in real life, I make it a point to mention before a campaign what themes might come up. In case somebody is not interested in certain themes. However, when I GM, I dislike barring anything the PC's wish to do. Granted anything you do is subject to in-game consequences. With that said, if there are not enough interested parties, I will be happy to ban certain content to make it more agreeable to you. __________________________________________________________________________ Well, it looks like the "undefined" has won. This means that story and game elements will be descriptive rather than involving dice rolls. In a way, this is the option that allows the most freedom when creating and playing a character, because you're bound less by arbitrary dice rolls and stats and more by creative imagination. With that said, I will give a bit of a framework. This is pretty much lifted straight from the Monster Girl Adventure RPG from years ago. So if you want examples, you can check that out. Anyway, the framework for character creation are as followed: Name:(Kind of obvious) Sex: (Also kind of obvious) Class: (Without stats, this is kind of just an affirmation of what you're good at and how you want to progress in the world) Race: (Kind of obvious. You might want to go for something a bit more humanoid, because some(or many) may distrust you if you don't.) Looks:(This is your physical appearance and will be used for descriptions for other PC's and for myself) Skills and spells:(These are special things you can do during standard play. Keep in mind that they aren't the only things you can do and certain things can be done without a skill or ability. However, it'll be more likely for you to fail. Anyone can attempt to pick a lock, but someone who specializes it will fail less than someone who doesn't. Also, there will be opportunities for improvement. So the skills or spells that you start with may not be the only ones you have throughout the whole RPG) Background: (This is essentially your story up to this point. You don't need an extensive backstory, but interesting backgrounds tend to lead to interesting story possibilities. When I post the Player Info/Discussion thread, I'll get a bit more into the story setting.) Equipment: (This is what gear you currently have. You will be able to find things in your travels and upgrades. So the equipment put here isn't necessisarilywhat you'll have for the whole RPG. Clothes, weapons, equipment, anything you think might be pertinent and on your person) Once I post the Player Info/Discussion thread. You can post your character there at the time for approval. I'm going to be generally pretty easygoing. This is for fun after all. Anything that you don't want the general public to know, but feel that I should know. Such as your character is a wanted criminal or something like that can be sent privately to me once you post your character. I would love to post the Player Info/Discussion thread now, but It's pretty late and I intend to post a number of paragraphs to introduce you all to the setting. So, think about your character and what you want to do and I'll try and post the next part sometime in the next couple of days.
All righty then. I have posted the Player Info/Discussion thread for those who wish to make characters. If you're unhappy with the decision to not go with 3.5 or Pathfinder, I hope that you'll still decide to join us. If you still don't wish to, then maybe we'll see what happens with the next RPG. Until then, best of luck.
