This is an idea I've been throwing around for a couple of days as a way to get my mind off of some personal stuff. The story is a mix of Final Fantasy Dyssidia and the Warriors Orochi games basically. The basic story is that Cosmos, the Goddess of Harmony, has been watching over the various FF worlds and begins to notice something strange. Whole cities and areas (Such as the Calm Lands from FFX) have began to just disappear. When she looks deeper into the mystery, she finds that Chaos, the God of Discord, has been storing power for a long time to basically "Create" a world, by sticking these stolen parts together. Chaos is hiding somewhere in his new world and has legions of monsters at his disposal. She doesn't dare go after him herself because then the ruined worlds could begin to fall apart. So she uses some of her power to draw five heroes to send out after Chaos. Their goal is to weaken him enough to disrupt his power so that she can restore the worlds. The hitch is, she can only draw one hero from each world, and only has enough power to draw five total and still have enough juice to keep the worlds from falling apart. Chaos senses this, and draws three villains to lead his army against these heroes. So the draw here: Each opening thread would allow for a different "Dream Team." Think Fantasy Football of the FF worlds. This would allow everyone a chance to mix and match their favorite heroes and give a set of villains for them that they may not even be prepared for. The cities Chaos has stolen will allow for some interesting adventures and allow minor characters from various games to make an appearance, but not actually be part of Cosmos's chosen. Want Baku and the Tantulus band from IX? Lindbulum could have been part of the stolen lands! This can allow the chosen heroes to gain other allies, but the only rule is: If a major playable character isn't part of the chosen, they don't show up. If you choose Barret from VII, then Cloud gets left behind. I've given this a lot of thought and I hope some others would be interested in this story as well. I've even decided on the first dream team selection: Cosmos: Cecil: A former Dark Knight, Cecil is a Paladin who fought for his kingdom and saved the world. He is a leader who has had to overcome his inner demons and uses both swords and white magic to protect his people. Appearance: FF 4. I'm using the after years version, so he is now King of Baron and a seasoned warrior. I'm thinking he will be the leader of my group. Tifa: The owner of Seventh Heaven Bar. She is basically a monk, with fast physical attacks and some minor magical abilities thanks to Materia. She once fought alongside the rebel group AVALANCHE to save the planet. Appearance: FF 7. I'm using the Advent children version, but planning on Chaos to have stolen Midgar from a place in time before the ending of FF 7. Quistis: Everyone's favorite teacher and mercenary! A Blue mage, based on her special abilities, who passed on her knowledge and experience to her students before joining an elite group of them on a quest to save the world! Appearance: FF 8. Fran: Ok, I couldn't help myself here... A Veira (Rabbit woman for those who don't know) that is a master of weaponry. Having her default as an archer but capable of using other weapons as well. She is a sky pirate who helps save a kingdom on take on an empire! Appearance: FF 12 Ace: A member of an elite class at a military academy. Ace is a Gambler who uses magical cards in combat for various and interesting effects on both his allies and enemies. Appearance: FF Type-0. (I haven't finished Type-0, so be gentle if I screw something up with him.) I went back and forth on a lot of things with this team. (At one point, Quistis was replaced with Celes from 6, and Ace for Squall. Cecil I mulled over for a while, but I think he makes a decent leader. If I do switch him, it will be for his son, Ceodore.) For team Chaos: Kefka: An insane man who ACTUALLY SUCCEEDED IN TAKING OVER THE WORLD AND DESTROYING A LOT OF IT, unlike most of the FF villains. Chaos sees his brilliance and insanity as the perfect counter for Cosmos's heroes. Kefka is powerful mage, who doesn't hesitate to fight dirty, using mind control, poisoning, sacrificing innocents, and dark magic to achieve his goals. Appearance: FF 6 Yunalesca: A beautiful woman who has lied for centuries and given people false hope. Having them sacrifice a companion for "Power to save the world." Her false promises led many to their final doom. Appearance: FF X. While not a "Final Boss" or even a main antagonist, she is very hot and can act as a bit of a foil to Kefka's insanity. Genesis: Project G, created by the Shinra Electric Corp. Genesis is a failed experiment who waged war with the company he once fought for after learning the truth of his birth. His body is deteriorating and he seeks a way to save himself. Chaos promises him that his body will be fixed in return for his service. Appearance: FF 7 timelime (Multiple times and places) I know this is a lot to take in. Thoughts? Ideas? I'm going to begin work on it tomorrow, so I'm hoping to hear something soon lol.
As a Final Fantasy lover, I became quite interested on your idea. I'd be open to develop a team or at the very least, help you with the idea or eventual contributors with their team.
Awesome! I really put a lot of thought into this idea and I'm a Final Fantasy lover as well. I'm open to several different openings with different teams. I'm thinking the start needs to be in Midgar, even if there is no FF7 Hero in the team. What are some places you would suggest that would have been torn out and placed in this new world? I'm open to most places, but I want at least three seas and various lands. I wish I was better at making maps so I could make one once I've got things sort of set up. Cities/Towns: Midgar Locations: Calm Lands Dungeons: Tower of Babel These three are ones I've pretty much decided on for sure, but trying to decide where else.
Well, I've only played Final Fantasy I to XII, skipping only XI, so I won't be able to give an input about matters from FF XIII onwards. About locations, one that could be interesting is Balamb Garden from FF8, just imagine the students coming out of Garden to find out an entirely new world. FF12 has a lot of large areas that could be incorporated in the same vein of the Calm Lands, I think. FF9 also has some interesting towns, such as Lindblum and Treno.
I have played pretty much all of them (Very short stint in the MMO...) and I've actually beat 4-6, 9-X2, and was near the end of XII and XIII. I started Type-0 and I'd say I'm about a quarter of the way through it. For the spinoffs, I've beaten Dirge of Cerberus and nearly beat Crisis Core. You are right FF12 has some huge areas. I'm thinking I'd like to see that huge Viera forest in the game as well. Probably somewhere farther in, not near the beginning. XIII had some interesting areas of varying sizes as well. I actually really liked XIII-2 with Serah instead of Lightning as the lead. It had some very interesting places. FF9's Maiden Sari and Lindblum were both places I had thought about adding, though Treno is nice as well. What about minor characters or other Hero/Villain combinations? I've got the first two pages and a VERY short writer info thread that I will work on later as more gets added to the story. Just waiting on the story to be approved now and it will be up and running!
One area from FF12 that could be interesting to add is that abandoned castle, the Necrohol of Nabudis, and the area around it, the Nabreus Deadlands. About the characters, there a few attractive combinations, such as putting together a team of thieves (Balthier, Zidane, Locke, Rikku and one more, maybe Faris) or mixing that kind of character with quiet, shy ones (maybe a team with Balthier, Zidane, Squall, Yuna and Celes, Terra or Aerith). As for the villains, I like Seifer (FF8 and 9 are my favorites), even if he doesn't end the game as a villain. But I guess him and Sephiroth are two characters that can fit in a team of villains chosen by Chaos.
Hmmm, that's some interesting teams. Though Celes and Terra couldn't be in the same team lol. Another team I liked would have been Yuffie, Rikku, Edge, Amarant, and Shadow. The Ninja Team! Cosmos picking a group of speed/stealth characters to sneak through Chaos's land! I don't know about Necrohol of Nabudis. I need to go through my old FF12 guide if I can find it lol. Seifer would make a good villain. Even minor villains can be acceptable for the story in my opinion. Planning Don Corneo to appear, but as a side boss. Seifer could be an actual good major villain though. Sephiroth could always be a major player, but I wanted to throw everyone for a loop so I picked Genesis over him for that specific reason lol! Though I think some of the Deepground from DOC could be fun to play with as well. Hmmm... What about the four fiends? Not as big bosses, but think they would be cool to bring in? They have appeared in multiple FF games in some form or another so they would probably be a cool mini boss or something. Oh! They could be the key to breaking the final shield blocking the party from getting to Chaos!
The Necrohol and the Deadlands around it are an optional area full of fog, ghosts and things like that, might be fun to use it as a dungeon. Don Corneo would be a fun cameo, I think. The four fiends would be amazing choices for mini bosses, there are the Weapons from FF7 as well. I've read the first threads and enjoyed it a lot, it's getting really good!
Ah ok that's why I didn't recognize it. Don Corneo will probably be a sort of "Running Gag" boss like that octopus from VI. Might have the octopus show up actually. Both could be fun and perverted bosses. The weapons... Hmmm.... I never actually got that far in FF7, kept getting stuck and moving on to other games before I could get that far. I did see them destroy Spoiler Midgar, but never fought them. Lol I'll let you write them in. I think since I reset everyone's magic and abilities, I'll have summons as the same. The Heroes will have to find and defeat the summon to get them to be usable as Materia. I'm glad you liked it! I'll work on it a little bit today I hope. Since I put Midgar in the story, I think I'll leave the town of Edge out. Hmmm what other minor characters could work?
I've fought a few of the Weapons, not all of them, though. They are very powerful. There's Gilgamesh to use as a boss as well, appeared on more than one FF. Minor characters, hmm, there's the Tantalus you've mentioned, the factions from X-2 and maybe the resistance from FF6, to mention a few.
The Reclaimers were from 6 I believe. They didn't really have a big role other than "Hey guys, We're here!" Though we could of course change that. OH! We could put in characters from the movies/anime as well! Lol they were not as interesting as the games though. Gilgamesh would be a good one. The factions could be interesting. The Heroes could be forced to actually pick a side in order to get more allies. Though the new Yevon group could be getting controlled behind the scenes by my Yunalesca villain as well since she was Spoiler Yu Yevon's daughter! I'm thinking of General Leo from 6 showing up as well. Probably trying to save lives and fight back against Chaos on his own. Getting help in this world could have varying degrees of success based on what Heroes are chosen.
Yeah, I was referring to that group Locke was a part of in the beginning. Yunalesca controlling the New Yevon group behind the scenes can be a really good plot; after the truce that happened at the end of the game, the New Yevon starts acting weird again because of Yunalesca and it's up to the heroes to help the Youth League to figure out what's happening. There are a few characters that can do the same job you're intending for General Leo, such as Sir Fratley from FF9 and Laguna's team from FF8. Maybe the heroes can stumble into one of them every once in a while.
Actually I was thinking Laguna could be the leader of a Hero team with how much you play him in 8. Fratley on the other hand would be a damn good choice. Him and Puck running around, rallying people for the cause. I always liked Fratley. Another fun person to have show up would be Beatrix. I considered her as a Hero Team member, but you only control her twice, and both times are fairly short. She would make a good ally to the team though. I'm still thinking on other actual Villain Team combinations. Thinking a fun team would have Dr. Lugae. Considering this guy Spoiler turned Edge's parents into monsters, I think a Hero team with Vincent would be good. Vincent might see similarities between him and Hojo and flip out. How about Lugae, Rosso the Crimson, and Seifer. I like the idea of keeping at least one Villain a wild card that could turn on Chaos. Seifer for this team would work out.
I'm glad you liked the intro of the AVALANCHE trio Duskford! I wanted to show Tifa's feelings coming to the surface for them, but still have her realize she couldn't tell them what happened to them.
Agreed on Beatrix, she should be a nice occasional character, especially if one wants to dabble into the erotic side of the story, lol. I see your logic on a wild villain, an there are a few characters who fit that bill, for differents reasons, such as Genesis, Seifer, Kuja or even Shuyin. I also was a bit surprised by the AVALANCHE members' appearance. I had thought Chaos would rip post-games versions of the locations, but now I see that it could be from any point in the timelines. This can have the potential of altering events from the games, a nice touch.
Beatrix and Fratley are two of my favorite side characters. Blank from 9 as well to be honest. A lot of people didn't really seem to like 9, but it had some very interesting characters and very touching moments. I liked how a few times it stepped out of the main chaos of the story and just sort of took a breath and let you see the characters regroup and have a moment. Like when Beatrix and Steiner accidentally get mixed up about the love letter Eiko had written and dropped. It sets a nice little side romance for them that might have not happened in another game. Shuyin as a villain wild card could be interesting. X-2 had Yuna up against him, but what could happen if we actually made it Tidus? That could make for an interesting duel before a possible switching of sides for Shuyin. I been thinking about it and I really like your first suggestion about Balamb Garden showing up. 8 wasn't my favorite, but the idea behind SeeD was really interesting to me. One thing that has given me pause though was Cid. There is one in EVERY GAME! Should I include the ones that were not Hero or Villain characters and if I do, should it be only one of them or more than once? I mean, we have Cid the moogle (Playable in Tactics advance I believe) and then we have the scientist from 6, a pilot in 2, and god knows how many other non-playable ones.... Hell, I think 12 had two Cids. And evil Cid and then Al-Cid who helped the heros. (Went a littler overboard there in my opinion....)
F9 was my favorite alongside FF8, maybe because they were the first ones I've played. It had a bit of everything, action, adventure, romance, mystery and the list goes on. Tidus vs. Shuyin could be an interesting scene. The "dream" vs. the "real one". The SeeD idea was what got me hooked to FF8 at first, just going on missions for money, I've liked that idea a lot. A reunion between all Cids, lol! Well, I think the playable ones should be available to be Heroes, the Villains should stay as villains and the minor Cids as minor characters. doing a quick counting, I remember the scientist from 5, the pilot from 7, the headmaster from 8, the king from 9, the pilot from 10 and the two from 12.
There was a Cid in every game, playing various roles. Often they are pilots or mechanics. I'm open to the Hero Cid's being on a Hero team (Oh god, an all Cid team.....) but we would have to be very careful not to confuse readers with them. I got on my rant about Cids and forgot to address part of your last post lol. Yeah, Chaos ripped from all points on the timelines. I used the Advent Children version of Tifa, so Midgar with the AVALANCHE trio wouldn't exist anymore. I did use the ending versions for Cecil, Tifa, Quistis, and Fran, but that was to make their transition to the new world easier and have them proven as warriors. Ace is a bit of a wild card for me, but I think he can be fun to use for a fight, though less so for an erotic scene. As for the timelines changing, Cosmos will try to mend the timelines as she puts them back they way they are supposed to go, but some things could slip through...
LOL, a thread with 5 Hero Cids and 3 Villain Cids! Although I don't really remember a villain Cid besides the one on FF12. I must admit I didn't play Dissidia, so I didn't know Cosmos and Chaos. I have to say Cosmos would fit very well in an erotic scene, lol.
6 had a Villain Cid, who later turned and helped the heroes. Depending on actions later, he could die on an island trapped with Celes.... Cosmos would fit well into an erotic scene lol. But she isn't actually with the party. I think a scene with her would probably be at the end, for either Heroes winning or losing. Winning, she probably joins them for an orgy to celebrate, losing we see her submitting to Chaos as the rest of the worlds crumble around them. How about a non-human team? Freya, Kimari, Fran, Luca (Dwarven princess, trained by Cid to be an engineer and pilot.) and ending with either Umaro (Yeti), Montblanc (Moogle), or Mog (Moogle)
