I'm not sure if this has been suggested before, but I think some more social aspects added to the main site would be nice, like how here on the forum you can make profile posts/update your status. I would like to be able to make a profile post and have my followers receive a notification if they opt into it or something, so I can alert them to stories I think they may like, what I'm currently working on/ETCs, content off-site that they may be interested in, etc. It could even have an optional polling system so your followers can vote for something, like what they want to see from you next.
