There are a couple of stories that I would like to follow specifically for one of its branches, but, if the story updates, there`s no real way to tell if it was the particular branch I`m interested in, or another branch that I really couldn`t care less about. I imagine this is especially the case with many users regarding stories that have NUMEROUS branches for specific fandom. If I'm interested in a My Hero Academia branch of a story, I don't want to be notified when the Beserk branch updates instead. I can only imagine how much of a nightmare that could be to implement, but the feature would be absolutely WONDERFUL to have.
Just bookmark the branch chapter you want to follow. It notifies you if a chapter is added to that branch.
