Hello, and welcome to the First of several threads for "For Queen And Country". In this thread we will be explaining the system we are going to use, and Creating Characters: Once Characters are created we will move on to Actually Playing the game.

While this game takes place in a D&D based fantasy world I have repeatedly found D&D/Pathfinder is too complicated for forum games.

Therefore, we will be using a modified, simplified, and streamlined system of my own devising.

First thing to be aware of is that stats are not scored on a scale of 0 to Infinity with 10 as average: we dispense with those and go straight to modifiers, with Players stats scoring from -2 to +5 with +/-0 as average.

To generate scores Players get 7 points of bonuses to assign to thier scores, and may reduce other scores to get a like bonus to assign elsewhere. Be aware that you can assign no more than a +4 to a score: to get a +5 you must be from a race which grants a bonus to that score.

The scores we track are as follows: STR, DEX, CON, INT, WIS, CHA, & APP*
    *(Appearance.)

    Next: Weapons and Armor
We are going to use the weapons of Pathfinder, but, again to simplify things, ignore most special rules associated with them other than reloading times, and ignore the critical hit rules completely, in this game no one ever crits or fumbles.

Armor similarly is based on pathfinder, but ignore armor check penalty and arcane spell failure: wizards and sorcerers simply cannot wear armor without a special feat.

Spells: Speaking of spells: each player who is going to play a Spell Caster of some sort needs to talk with me about any spells they want: anything that seems especially complex is likely to be disallowed.

Skills: similarly, skills follow pathfinder rules and I will have to adjudicate them carefully. (Important note: craft and profession skills are needlessly complex, they are disallowed.)

Saves: Fortitude may be based off STR OR CON, Will May be Based off WIS, CHA, OR APP, Reflex may be based off INT OR DEX.

In most other respects this follows Pathfinder rules: if you have any further questions ask them here!

So, if I understand correctly stats would be like this:
    STR -1
    DEX +1
    CON -1
    INT +2
    WIS +2
    CHA +1
    APP +3
Stats for a female spellcaster with good looks.

Any good place to learn about the possible weapons, armor, spells and skills?

    Yes: pfsrd.com

    Also: those stats look fine.

EDIT: had the extension wrong in the link, if you got a bad page retry.

Could I be a lizardfolk cavalier?

    More details:
    STR, +4
    DEX, +2
    CON, +4
    INT, +0
    WIS, +2
    CHA, +0
    APP -1

Lizardfolk have +2 STR, +2 CON.

Equipment: Horse (part of class, is combat trained), Lucerne Hammer, Banded Mail, Locking Gauntlet.

Part of the Order of the Dragon. (The cavalier must remain loyal to his allies and must always work to further the aims of the group. He must protect his allies from harm and defend their honor when called into doubt.)

Yes, I'm aware they have a reputation as cannibalistic savages. I'll come up with something.

    Keria Slade
    (Female?) Kitsune Monk
STR: +3 (includes -1 from kitsune race)
DEX: +2 (includes +1 from kitsune race)
    CON: +3
    INT: -1
    WIS: +3
CHA: -2 (includes +1 from kitsune race)
    APP: 0

Not sure if I should worry about feats or alignment here but those are the base stats I cooked up.
    They good?

As for equipment I figure just a pair of cestus and her body for weapons, no armor, and a scarf.

    Those all look good!
(I'm a bit leary of the lizard folk character, because he's ECL +1, but I'll allow it.)

Now: With stats out of the way, let us proceed to equipment and magic...

No magic for me aside from the natural shapeshift of the race since i'm a monk but how should we do equipment? Should we impose a starting gold limit and subtract from it the cost of our starting stuff?

    http://www.d20pfsrd.com/equipment---final#Table-Starting-Character-Wealth

Or we could go with the regular pathfinder starting wealth table if its more convenient.

(Also, my racial stat changes are actually plus 2 but i changed it to plus one since we're only doing bonuses. Thats right isn't it?)

    Yes, that is correct.

Your Characters start at first level, and use the average starting Gold for your respective classes...

Yes, that appears to be correct.

You get one outfit for free worth 10 GP or less. (May I also recommend that you pick up a Spell component Pouch, spell book, and writing implements?)

Will do, thanks. The Explorer's outfit is the one I get for free, since it costs 10 gp. I'll get to the rest of my inventory in a bit.

Yikes monk start with almost no money, i'll have to be frugal.
    How about:

Starting Outfit: Monks outfit+ Nice Scarf

Gold before buying: (1d6 x 10) for monk class resulted in 50gp total.

    Equipment:
    • x2 Kama (exotic monk weapon) = -4gp
    • x30 Shuriken (exotic monk thrown weapon) = -6gp
    • x1 Bedroll = -1sp
    • x1 Monk's Kit (includes a backpack, a belt pouch, a blanket, rope, soap, torches (10), trail rations (5 days), and a waterskin.) = -8gp
    • x1 Grapling Hook = -1gp

    Remaining Gold: 30gp 9sp

    Look good?

With one exception: I said "Average Starting Gold For Your Class" So you have 14GP and 9SP remaining...

    Ah, sorry!
I'm as dumb as my character :3

It's always easier to play a character who's a lot like yourself... ;)

    True that ;)

What's next? I don't really know how to do feats n' skills.

  20. Nemo of Utopia

Ah, yes, that's something I wanted to talk about: Feats are being sharply curtailed. Anything that involves CMB/CMD must have prior approval, most metamagic feats are replaced by Spellcraft chacks, item creation is RIGHT OUT, and as for 'Traits': Forgedaboudit!

    "What's left?"

Skill feats, some of the combat feats, like the two weapon fighting tree, the Cleave tree, and the archery tree, Save enhancements, Toughness, and anything else you want to run past me that's not complicated.
