Formatted text de-formats

In the past I've had a problem with italicized text de-formatting and adding underscores (_) around where it was. I've also seen bold text de-format and add double asterisks (**) around where it was. But now it's happening constantly and as soon as I revert the change, it changes back. Is there a way to prevent this?
    Thanks!

It is a little hard to figure out what you are saying in your message but if you are using markdown you will have to go into your settings and turn off the rich text editor.

Sorry. It's supposed to look like this:

but when I save it, I get this:
    upload_2017-8-31_19-35-31.png

Over and over, with the ** replaced with _ when the text was italicized instead of bold.

what does it look like unformated as you wrote it?

I know exactly what you're saying and I run into this problem too.

I write it normally, then I highlight the text and ctrl-I or ctrl-B to format it.

My unproven theory: There is some kind of bugged out formatting syntax still in place, although you can't see it because of the rich text editor.

I would suggest to delete the chapter and recreate it, see if the issue still persists.
If that's not possible (already follow up chapters in place), then i would attempt to deactivate the rich text editors (a checkbox under your account settings), remove all kind of formatting syntax, save, and re-enable the rich text editor. See if the issue still persists.

When a chapter is saved using the rich text editor, the chapter will be converted into markdown.

it could be interesting to see a copy of the markdown syntax before removing the formatting
