Ok, this is petty, and picune, and mean-spirited: I know all that already but I am god damned sick of seeing the NMI pop up on the General Board and having it be that damned advertisement thread of Gatekeeper_A's! So, after grinding my teeth for the fiftyeth time, I at last thought of a solution! Look, I get it, Gatekeeper does this for a living: that's great! I applaud that he's gotten to the point in our common craft where people will PAY for his work, its quite an acomplishment! But I am sick of that thread lighting up a board that has other purposes, ones that I feel his constant version updates dont meet the standards of: honestly, at this point it feels like spam: but I don't want to just block him, when he posts in other areas he's VERY insightful and helpful, and I also don't want to deny him access to the fans who probably await those updates avidly... So, after much beating around the bush, why don't we make a separate forum, right off the top page, where creators like gatekeeper can advertise their work without cloging up forms that are supposed to be for regular discussions and user conversation? Friedman's done it before, he created the RPG sub-forum, which I've enjoyed, so it shouldn't be too hard to make an 'advertisements' board, right?
I kind of agree, though I just mark the thread as read and go on. On the other hand, there isn't much content yet for a whole board. So currently, I can live with it.
I look at it this way, just because there 'isn't much content yet' may only mean that most people who WOULD create content don't see a place to put it, yet... An "If you build it they will come," sort of situation. I know I've got a few things I'd advertise if there were a forum set aside for it...
Yeah I know there are a few authors that have tried to monetize there writing. But it is confusing where to put it. Also, if it had it's on place those searching for someone to do some writing that outside of what this site offers would have a place to go look. Right now it's like pick a forum and scroll and maybe you'll find an old post. Not exactly an ideal situation.
