So, I had this idea... 80's Trailer Narrator voice: "In a world... Where good is fighting a desperate battle against evil... In a world where swords and sorcery are the means of combat... A brave hero, a champion of light, has defeated numerous minions of a demon lord and foiled his plans to conquer the world one by one... Until the demon lord decides to use a more subtle method to defeat the hero, an attack that he doesn't see coming and an opponent which he can't fight against. His own family." The hero has bravely fought to protect his family from the monsters but while he was away, fighting for all that is good or pure, the demon lord has corrupted a family member of the hero and turned them into a succubus or incubus who will seduce the hero. ...And now my troubles begin because there's plenty of ways to do this and I haven't decided on the details. Is the hero a man or a woman? Is it their mother, father or a child who has been turned into a demon? ...Or maybe instead of being corrupted they are merely possessed and powerless to stop the creature from using them as a tool for evil? Depending on how dark this story is the demon might either corrupt the hero, rob them of their powers or simply kill them. At first I was debating on how to do this story, would it be suitable as a CHYOA style story or should I finally try to write it as a regular non-choose-your-adventure story. ...But that would mean deciding the characters. ...Which would probably be Father-hero/daughter-succubus or Son-hero/mother-succubus. What do you think? Does this have potential? Should I put it on CHYOA?
If Lilith Strain and some of the others like it are any indicator there is potential. Its all about how it manifests.
The most troubling bit in this is that this kind of story has a chance of ending up one of those with a dozen dead threads that just list possible combinations but don't go anywhere. And it might work as a non-CHYO type story if I could just make up my mind on what combinations to use. EDIT: The real problem in my mind is the massive amount of combinations. Male/Female hero? How many family members and which of them is corrupted? I don't want make a story with 30 alternative threads right at the start merely listing combinations. I did get to thinking of how to do this and have a plans for one particular way of doing this... Now just to decide if I'll instead write it down and try to publish it on Literotica? Or maybe narrow it down to two or three options that I publish here and see if any threads get other writers.
Start a storyline and just keep working on it until you get an idea that you go back up and then branch from there. You'll end up swapping all around and finishing bits and pieces of branches and then see what is popular. It's like that old Chinese proverb: the best day to plant a tree is yesterday, the second best is today. If you don't at least start one thread, then it'll never happen. The broad background you have, get the characters introduced and if it doesn't work, start a chain off the main one and go again. Maybe someone else can make it work.
