just not long started contributing stories - 2 so far to the established story I liked which already had 14 chapters. So I added two more and put my spin towards the storyline. But it has sat for a while now under review. I noticed another author added an alternative route for the story back at chapter11 and it’s now approved. Can someone help please?
If it's a moderated story, the original author of it has to approve it. So if you think you waited long enough, I suggest sending them a PM.

It really depends that’s why I like to make my stories either public or hybrid moderated. I know a lot of major authors on this site get swamped with chapters and notifications so they can sometimes miss submitted chapters. Usually it just takes a friendly private message to get them published but it depends on who is moderating. If you’re looking to get stories approved for publishing it usually takes 1-2 Days assuming there’s no issues with your story. Also people can have different permission levels, so that could also be a reason as to why your chapters aren’t published but someone else’s is. When I say hybrid moderated it consists of a moderated story with approved authors who can publish their own chapters which saves me time and gets their chapters published faster.
