pretty sure I asked this be4 but cant remember; how do I link diff chapters together? i.e there r 2 chapters I want to link to the same one?
How it is done is described on the Add a Chapter/Edit Chapter page. Basic structure: If you have the chapters A and B that both should link to Chapter C, you can add chapter C as a direct child of A. Then, create an empty chapter D as a child of B that links to C. A - C B - D(links to C) (If game mode is involved, other structures might be necessary/useful)
If you use a small device or if your browser width is small, you first have to open the sidebar by clicking on the three, red, horizontal bars. The blue "Link Chapter" link should be the second last line in the sidebar (just above the red "Delete Chapter" link)
If you, as the author, editor, or story owner, open the chapter, you get a note with a link that leads to the destination chapter. Readers won't see that link but will be forwarded to the destination chapter.
Could you update the how to page with this? It's a little confusing, and your explanation cleared it up for me. Also, is there no way for the author to move from B to C (via D) and not get the note link? I find it disrupts flow when I'm editing my drafts.
You mean with the part that the site automatically forwards readers but not users with story roles? To edit the chapter title, scores changes, conditions, or to remove the chapter link, the author must open the edit chapter page of a linking chapter. I think the most obvious way to access the edit chapter page is by the three dots menu at the bottom of a chapter. If an author gets forwarded by chapter links, that wouldn't be possible anymore. (They could still access the page through the story map or by their chapters list, but depending on what they're trying to achieve, it isn't that handy.) It is also easier to see if a chapter option is a link or not. That said... currently, there is no way to disable the forwarding. If it helps you, you could open your story map and access the edit chapter pages from there. In case of testing your story or reading it, you could log out or use another account for testing purposes. (In the future, I could imagine a feature that would allow authors to disable the forwarding in their settings.) If you want, you can add a suggestion to the Suggestion Subforum. If suggestions get a lot of votes, the chance that they get implemented earlier or get implemented at all is higher. (You can vote on suggestions by liking the initial post of the respective thread.)
Not quite. It's the creating of a "dummy"/forwarding page. What I understood from the Add a Chapter/Edit Chapter page was that I could link B2 directly to C via linking the chapters together. To give an example: A > B1> C A > B2 (Linked) > C So what happened was that the content I wrote for B2 got deleted and I had to debate between rewriting it again or scrapping it entirely. And after reading your advice I tried: A >B2 > D (Linked) > C And it looks like it works.
Unfortunately, deleting chapter content in order to create a linking chapter is kind of a known problem For that reason, we added the note directly at the link where you can create a chapter link. In the Guide, there was already a note about it as well, though it was below "Unlink Chapter" and rather inconspicuous. I have moved it a few lines up, expanded it a little, and changed the formatting in order to attract attention. Right now, I'm not sure how to explain it on that page. Though maybe a subchapter with examples.
