Hey there! Real quick: apologies if I am posting this to the wrong place or asking anything annoying; I have used chyoa as a reader for a long time, but the forum area is new to me so I do not know the nuances of the land and it's practices. Anywho! I go by MichaelChaseLit (formerly TryingSomethingNew), and I am currently writing "I am NOT a Hero!". Today I posted the 30th chapter! I come here for a few things: I'd love just some general notes, like if I am writing dialogue poorly or if I am too predictable or anything else. Secondly, I was wondering if any fellow authors post anywhere else? I started putting my story on other sites, but I did not like any of the communities as much as i enjoyed chyoa. Also, minor thing: how do I add tags?! I see some stories that have, say, 'harem' or 'male protagonist' and the like. I feel dumb for asking that last one. Well, that's all, really. Thanks to anyone who responds!!
Add tabs by pressing enter after inputting a single tag; I'll reply again with feedback once I have it
Okay, I've read three chapters (I'm not much of one for male PoVs), and my feedback is: please use adjectives. If you want something to stand out, use a sensory adjective to help readers visualize what's going on. "I ate a juicy apple" is much better than "I ate an apple" If you don't want something to stand out, why are you mentioning it?
Oh my goodness, I’m so sorry! I had no idea you’d responded! I thought I’d get a notification or something (maybe I did and didn’t see? I don’t know). Thank you for checking it out! I appreciate your critique. That’s definitely something I’ll be paying attention to from now on. Admittedly, I was struggling to identify exactly how I messed up when re-reading some, but I also have that bad habit ingrained into me so I’m sure it’s something I’ll have to learn as I go lol. As far as the POVs go, I completely understand. I struggle to read female POVs (in erotica, that is; average novels are fine). I do occasionally delve into the POVs of other characters (probably more often than I should), but that’s usually for a chapter or so, and I’m not sure if I could write a believable sex scene from the female perspective. again, thank you very much for responding! I should also get to adding some tags, eh? Lol
I think the difficulty mostly comes from relatability; it takes an exceptionally well-written character to be compelling if it's of a gender which the reader isn't in alignment with.
Hey, welcome to the forum side! Congrats on hitting chapter 30, that’s a huge milestone. For feedback, just ask specific questions (like “Does this dialogue feel natural?”) to get more targeted advice. As for other sites, ScribbleHub and Archive of Our Own (AO3) are popular, but yeah, CHYOA’s vibe is hard to beat. Tags? When you edit your story, there should be a “tags” section—just pop ‘em in there. No dumb questions here; we’ve all been there. Keep writing!
Thank you Hit chapter 50 recently now! I’ve also added a few tags, though only for things that have happened so far instead of future things. I deeply agree with Chyna’s ‘vibes’! I can’t say I’ve ventured to other sites hardly at all since finding it lol
