I’m creating a story that on the surface, is a 19 year old girl that used drugs and sex to get back at her repressive parents (no incest). However, in the story there are hints that there is more than repression with the parents, and in reality, the mother has outbursts of violent schizophrenia, with physical abuse but outside of this is a pious and lovely woman. The father is fucking insane. He may or may not love seeing his wife suffering, and wishes nothing more than for the protagonist to suffer the same fate. The protagonist uses drugs to hide this from herself and the reader in the beginning, but it slowly peels away, revealing the character of others in the story as well. What genre is this? I currently have it on miscellaneous, but once made public I’d like it to be in a larger, better group. Horror would fit, but it doesn’t exist, and the character is a teen, but it has no focus on her youth, it has family, but no incest, and it has lesbians because the protagonist is bisexual, but that explains too little, and it’s abusive, but not in a kinky way so no BDSM. Comment what you think it should be and why. I’ll be kinda busy writing and with finals (go me) but I’ll be responding ASAP.
I'd either go Erotic Coupling or Teen, depending on the sex content and story direction, and from your description I'd say Teen. While the typical focus on teen stories might be about first times, parties, sexy youths, or younger-older pairings; I'd say it can also be about other setting pieces - where parents and parental influence and control are a big factor (and that seems to be central here), where school classmates or former/recent classmates or friends in general are potential partners. Youthful sexual exploration. Drugs and rebellion also says teen. You're right that it's not a perfect fit for what people might traditionally think of when browsing the 'teen' category, but if there was a perfect traditional fit you wouldn't need to make a topic. Regardless you should think of a good line or two to clue readers into the themes, to accompany the title. Really anything to indicate there's an actual story and characters will be good, as opposed to a simple smut romp. Edit: Bisexual might also be a good bet, and is pretty generic so potential readers won't necessarily have a lot of preconceived notions.
Rebellion via drugs and sex is one of the main introduction pieces, and while it turns further from there somewhat quickly, at that point people are either reading on not caring or gone, so Teen would work pretty well in that aspect.
If the parent-child relation plays a big role as it seems, i'd say Teen. If the story focuses (from a sexual standpoint )on something specific that you don't want to spoil just yet, you could go with Fetish. Also if you feel that you don't fit those, go with Bisexual, as like as your main character is. Ultimately just toss into Miscellaneous. Thing is, the categories, as everyone says, could use some tweak.
