Hello, Is plagiatism OK here? A few days ago, I reported the story " https://chyoa.com/chapter/Introduction.436891 " for being an almost carbon copy of the story from Connerc " https://chyoa.com/chapter/Introduction.74209 " I didn't get any news from this report, and to this date, the story is still online, so I guess, it is a free ticket for everybody to start to copy on each others ... It looks like fun, I just can't decide which story I want to take for myself -_-
You're not kidding. At first I thought "Maybe it's just a similar premise." Nope. It's virtually word for word. Being the b-list writer I am, nobody cares enough to try to copy my work so I don't need to worry as much. But here's the thing. Plagiarism is lame.
I admit that I once Rewrote my own story when the end result was NOT what I wanted and pretty much ended up being a steaming pile of garbage. But I at least REWROTE the damn thing. Blatant plagiarism is absolutely not cool.
Now, I may have not been here as long as everyone else BUT I think I speak for everyone when I say there is a term to describe someone in this situation. We call it being a "wad."
Unfortunately, this is something that you have to keep alert of. the first time that I had run into blatant plagarism was actually within the confines of A Fantasy Dynasty. Awhile ago, someone(I'm not going to name names, because they are still moderately active) took a large swath of chapters from one section of the story, fiddled with the names and locations a bit so that it wasn't identical and then used that as a springboard for their own chapters. I didn't even notice until i approved a few of them before I went "Wait...this sounds super familiar". Of course, copy and paste chapters aren't exactly new to A Fantasy Dynasty. Chapters where nearly identical events occurred, but with some differences or earlier differences. As it was roughly three or four months before the introduction of conditional variables that would have streamlined that whole process. However, it was always within our(our being the other people involved with writing chapters) own little stories. In fact, the only time there was any overlap was when Actiaeon asked if he could use one of my sex scenes as a template for one of his. I agreed and he made his chapter different enough that you probably wouldn't notice it unless you looked at them side-by-side. Anyway, back to the person i was speaking of. I pretty much rejected all of their chapters and said "Hey, it seems like you want to do your own thing, but I can't accept chapters that are just straight copied and pasted from my own. However, if you redo them so that they're not complete copies of my chapters. I'll give them another look" aaaannnnddd i never heard back from them
Could be worst. I have heard of Literotica authors having their stories copied and put on Amazon without their knowledge.
I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one being concerned by that. I didn't get any news from a mod about my report, but since the story was taken down, I guess they got it. I'm just wondering one thing: What is the usual delay on this site to adress a report? I may have been a little hasty with making a thread about it? A moderator advice would be much welcomed
Lit has a paragraph (see their FAQ) about copyright which even grants them to enforce your copyright. (You still have the full copyright and you can publish wherever you want) I think it depends on what it is. If the mod contacts the author, it could take some time to get a response, so it might take some time. (I'd guess that a report should be read within a day.) I forwarded this thread to Friedman, who removed the story. So if in doubt, send Friedman a message.
I don't mind admitting to taking inspiration from authors who I respect, but I would never blatantly copy anyone else.
I think there is nearly no content out there, neither books nor films which isn't inspired by something. You get inspiration all day long and I think that's perfectly fine, even if it is part of something which is already published.
That is very dependent on how one defines a 'story'... There are many thousands of stories that have yet to be told because they involve scientific advances we cannot yet conceive of...
You can tell the same story set in the Stone Age or the far flung future the setting, tools people have access to do not have a kick to do with basic narrative structure. Ow the stories will play out in different fashions because of these difference but when everything is stripped away they are still same basic story.
I disagree. As THIS video will show you "The Hero With A Thousand Faces" should have been entitled "Joseph Campbell is a Giant Overreaching Ponce" and the assessment that every story ever has already been told is based on equally inaccurate and fallacious assumptions and overuse of categorization.
Now I want a T-shirt with "Joseph Campbell is a giant overreaching ponce" on it. Sure to be a conversation starter. When it comes to new technology what if find interesting is how there are now stories you now can't do so easily. Romeo and Juliet would be radically different if they had smartphones for example.
